New Mexico State Police also have that antiquated look about their uniforms....


Virginia State Police dress uniforms are ugly as sin.




I will say that almost any uniform design looks better than DC police outfits. They look cheap and cheesy, like a mall security uniform.

One cool looking thing are the uniforms with the Battenburg markings/checkerboard patterns. I think Chicago is the only American police department to use them, but they are standard issue in the UK and Commonwealth nations.

The hats are modeled after officers hats worn by pilots in world war 2. The style was to crush the sides of cap (which would happen when they wore headphones) on purpose to show of their prestige as pilots.

These hats are also only worn from October thru April. They switch to the "smokey the bear" hats during the summer.

Actually those are just winter dress hats. The Warm weather cover is like a Smokey the Bear hat. They (winter) actually look pretty good. A little like a German Nazi hat.

Gentlemen, the crushed hat are a tradition in all HIGHWAY Patrol units of the US. The cops sure as hell dont like to wear em, but it has to do with Motorcycle patrol. They are actually the same hats worn by regular patrol cops, but with the interior "skeleton" removed (Thats the wire that maintains the cap's shape) its supposedly because when they are on the HIGHWAY, it would be less likely that the hat will blow away with the Wind..

Yes, I agree they are Ugly and serve no function. and Yes, the NYPD officers are a bit overweight. I am not going to disagree. But please understand that its based on traditon
