While it wouldn't be surprising if it was some conservitard, seeing as they holdd no sympathy for when "liberal" Americans die. But much, much more likely is that it's some amateur jihadist, which I'm predicting will have an East African background. Most likely Somalian, going off the descriptions that were given of a man with a black backpack.
