If war breaks out, the Chinks aint gonna let the South Koreans and the Americans go in there. China wants that buffer to remain.

What's the consensus on China's intentions?

They have criticized North Korea, but they are considered an N.K. ally.

Are they doing this to reinforce N.K. in support of a possible attack from the south?

Or, are they prepared to go in and take over N.K. to bring some order and stability to the backward country?

Are they moving their forces to deter an attack on N.K.?

China plans to swoop in and take North Korea if they fall to prevent us and south Korea from moving in.

To put it into perspective, this is only the fourth time ever the United States has gone to DEFCON 3. The last time was 9-11-2001. Before that was the Yom Kippur war and the Cuban missile crisis.

DEFCON 3 calls for the US air force to be ready to strike / counterstrike within 15 minutes.

China has mobilized its military and is massing near the border with North Korea. This step was taken after North Korea placed a mid-range Musudan missile ready to launch on its east coast and its “dedication of more facilities at the Yongbon complex to nuclear weapons work.”

According to some sources in Washington, the Chinese military mobilization is not directed at deterring Pyongyang but as support for North Korea’s steps.

Um, you guys do realize that North Korea is China's closest ally, right? And that the Chinese backed the North Koreans during the Korean War in the 1950s?

Nothing has really changed. China is still a communist state. They'll do the same thing again.

I seriously doubt the Chinese would invade North Korea to help us.

If anything, they'll either let North Korea get attacked or actively fight to protect North Korea.

Learn to read, no one in this thread said China is there to help us.

China and the US have made a deal to oust the current govt. of North Korea in its entirety and replace it by a friendly progressive open-market model beneficial to all.

Because the world has (dramatically) changed since 1951.

We should help China out the current regime in N. Korea and then give the northern Korean Peninsula to China in trade for all of our debt to them.

I'll go to war for that.

I can't imagine the difference between the Korean War in the 1950s and what might happen today. We know South Korea would get clobbered in its northern areas (capital...) fairly early and fairly strongly, but North Korea itself would be inundated with cruise missiles ad nauseum, like immediately - what government building would survive? Just think Iraq. while North Korea is trying to move troops over their heads would be invisible-to-their-radar aircraft, manned and unmanned, completely destroying any logistical anything.

And then China would invade them from the north.

Complete agreement. China at the most is going to sit on its hands, Russia has already signaled its agreement with the US on this issue, N. Korea is fucking them all regardless of their communist or dictatorship status forms of government. The only reason is, as a poster put up there, the Chinese are just protecting their border from those fleeing any type of inevitable activity.

China only holds 1.5 trillion of our debt.

Americans, American retirement funds, and the US government hold about 11 trillion of the 17 trillion debt.

Its a myth that the Chinese "own" us. Go drink some more koolaide.

Nobody wants North Korea, except maybe South Korea. They're not rich with resources, and their entire population is brainwashed and starving.

China is not going to jeopardize its position as an emerging world power by getting into a scrap with the US or the UN. They've stopped embracing communism for the most part, so it's not like they're trying to preserve the communism in North Korea.

When your nuclear neighbor goes crazy and starts firing missiles everywhere, it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

They actually are just maybe not with that lunatic at the helm. A closed off NK provides a buffer for them between our troops in South Korea and keeps the focus on NK instead of them. They have no interest in a unified free Korea

All hyped bullshit. We ain't happy unless we have a conflict somewhere. Winding down from Afghanistan we need to pick up somewhere else. 60 years and billions already spent why not finish this one? Here or somewhere else we gotta fight someone. It's the American way.

"If you can't fuckem, killem. After you fuckem, killem anyway".

Significant Chinese movements, DEFCON 3...

Nothing on CNN, MSNBC, or even the war-mongers at Fox.

Post pics or it's not happening (yet).

When did $1,500,000,000,000.00 become ONLY ??

That's an entire year of federal tax receipts.
