So somebody stuck up the cross after the buildings had already been destroyed. How does that make it an artifact of the tragedy?

I would never want to be a member of a group whose symbol was a guy nailed to two pieces of wood.

This is an old story and a really stupid one.

When the tower collapsed, two steel beams coincidentally formed a cross, which is not unusual for any building collapsing, given that there are thousands of crossbeams throughout buildings.

First, the fact that a bunch of dopey christians saw the cross as some sort of message from God is sad and pathetic. So what was God's message? I made or let these buildings collapse, so worship me and maybe I won't do it again?

Second, the reason the AA wanted it gone was because not everyone that died that day was a christian, so why make a memorial to one group of people and not for all the other denominations and non believers.

Third, what a waste of court time and legal costs for both sides. This is such a ridiculous story that never should have gotten to this point. Americans should hang their head in shame if this story ever gets out to rest of the world.

I am an atheist/agnostic and I stopped believing in religion a few years after I found out the whole Santa Claus thing was a hosejob.

Please give an example of a hard core atheist.
Being an atheist myself, I've never met anyone that fits that description. Everyone I've ever met has just been about equal rights and sometimes that seems to be what pisses people off.

This whole WTC cross thing is absurd and I don't blame the AA for being involved. If that sort of thing causes others to perceive them as shrill and prudish, oh well. If you're sick of hearing about these type of cases where AA is involved, join the club. They shouldn't have to be, but if you give any one species too much rope, they'll fuck it up!

Actually, it was the Jews and other religious groups that objected to being subjected to Christian prayers. Tyranny of the majority. You know, the principle by which the individual or small groups don't have to be pressured to join in whatever the majority religion decides is the correct thing to do.

It's a good analogy. Kids believe in Santa because they are taught to believe in him, hear endless of stories about Santa's intervention in the physical world, and live their lives among people who seem to believe in him too. It seems normal and acceptable to them. Why would they question it?

I personally don't think religious people are like Santa-believers. They're more like folks who believe in ghosts, UFOs, Sasquatch, Scientology, Wicca, spiritualism, etc. They believe in it because they like it.

Equal rights would be providing opportunity for both sides of the issue to be heard, debated or observed. But you don't want that. You want creationists silenced in our educational system. You want no prayer in schools or public events, not just sometimes yes and sometimes no. You and your ilk are obsolutionists, screeching about fairness while trying to control the message and pretend that there is only one side of the issue. Your type are the worst kinds of ideologues - do as I say, not as I do.

This doesn't take in account the whiney bitch atheists, such as yourself.

If we started teaching everything in schools, such as creationism, that had absolutely no supporting evidence, we'd never get past Kindergarten, since there's an infinite number of possibilities.

Just the same, I do think that students should get an overview of at least the major religions and schools of philosophy... the ignorance and intolerance of other cultures could be addressed in grade school.
