Christmas is disrespectful
Posted by: Eb En E Zer ()

Saying Merry Christmas to everyone IS disrespectful. It is irrational in a country that is so diverse to make the assumption that everyone is of the same religion that you are. Further, there is much evidence that would say that Jesus wasn't even born in December- the holiday was celebrated as a consolation for disgruntled pagans

I guess no one should say "Bless you" after someone sneezes either. Wouldn't want to offend.

Do you really think people can sneeze their souls out of their bodies?

So is saying "have a good evening" rude as well? By the same logic, you could say I am being presumptuous in assuming that they are, in fact, having good evening.

If somebody looks hard enough for something to bitch about, they will find it.

I have you now.

The thing these particularly vocal atheists don't seem to understand is that Chrismas is no longer a religous holiday and has been wholly enveloped by crass commercialism and a broad sense of goodwill. So if you're making a point to bitch about the various consumer based traditions, you're just being a busybody faggot and you need to find something better to do with your time. You need to instead, realize that Christmas is no longer about a little baby Jew and is about peace, family, and generosity to your fellow man. Oh and buying lots of shit, but the goodwill part is most important part.

No, I don't believe it. That was the point. Since it's NOT a religious belief of mine, should I get all butt-hurt and offended whenever someone says it to me since it's not a religious belief of mine?

It makes about as much sense as being offended when someone says "Merry Christmas" to you because you don't believe in Christ.

Christmas was created to celebrate the birth of Christ, not because he was born in December, but because the Romans had a winter celebration so the Christians could celebrate amount them and not be killed.

Is it really that bad that someone is being nice to you when saying merry Christmas? What about happy thanksgiving or valentines day? All made up holidays too. Can't we as a society just be fucking civil to each other and not so politically correct? That is what is killing us, because people get all bent put of shape because someone is actually speaking to them.

Then I would assume you chose not to take the day off today as a paid holiday and instead, went into work?

I don't believe in God, but I still celebrate the holiday. I view it as an opportunity to setup a nice tree with lights, buy presents, and share joy with my family once a year. When someone says "Merry Christmas", I say the same back. Someone could also tell me Happy Hanukah or even Kwanza, and I would say the same back. ATLEAST SOMEONE MADE THE ATTEMPT TO SAY SOMETHING NICE, WHICH IS A RARE FUCKING THING THESE DAYS.

Flew a major airline back to DC yesterday, and ALL of the flight attendants and the captain said "Merry Christmas" when they came on the intercom. I was overjoyed! Diversity schmersity, fuck political correctness, it was Christmas Day, for Christ's sake.

Son,

We are simply celebrating the birth of our Messiah, no need to get bent out of shape. His glory brings smiles to faces. I'll be praying for you.

that society is celebrating an insurgent preacher and his movement opposing the Roman Empire at the same time that many on the other side of the world are suffering through violence brought on by militant insurgent movements funded, trained, and armed by an empire seeking to extends it reach over many of the same lands...

You are uninformed. As Christ taught, "Render unto Caeser that which is Caeser's". His "insurgence" was against the Jewish religious leaders, not the Romans. He was worried about men's souls, not their pocketbooks or their politics. He specifically told His diciples to lay down their swords and to not fight in His name. Sorry, you are horribly wrong. Read the source.

He marytrd himself to try to bring about new governance in Palestine peacefully. You have him confused with the Zealots and other militant Messiahnic claimants who were crushed by the Romans. After he was killed, the early followers expected the Jews to rise up and revolt against the Romans. In that way, he is like other insurgents.
