Cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, Muscular dystrophy, flipper babies should be put to sleep within one year of birth.

I deff agree with that, it's awful to see someone spending months in agonizing pain, just waiting to die.

I watched a video of a man who was bred out the eugenics program.

He is super smart and lives in like a 20 million dollar house and he discussed about his iq and upbringing and he cries to have a normal life and how he would do things different if he could.

I think there is A VERY fine line... scientists shouldn't be playing God.

Of course, if a child is going to be stricken with a lifetime of pain and agony you just have to do what's best for the child. At that age they haven't formed any cognitive function, and if they have an illness that would ruin their life you should probably end it before they develop memories, emotion... things that make them a functioning human being.

My concern is that this might be considered the "standard", and the good ole gov't is going to refuse to help the mentally disabled in public schools, leaving a huge burden on the parents because they didn't want to off their baby.

How about this GP....scientists figure out what is causing all these various disabilities and fix the problem.

Problem is, between $5 and $6 billion dollars are spent annually on research alone for cancer. Has been for years and years. Yet the best we can get out of the cancer "industry" is don't smoke and we can give a lot of cancer patients a couple more years through chemo and radiation torture...er...therapy.

The government will never stand in the way of money going to help the disabled. That is their primary function these days. To give it to those that need it. Whether it helps or not.

Actually cancer treatment has come a long way in the last few decades. Getting cancer isn't quite the death sentence it used to be and a lot more people beat it now. Some of the treatments suck but if you beat it your hair grows back.

As for "scientists playing god", this isn't about scientists, it's about doctors and government policies on mercy-killing.

But since the word scientist has been brought up, I would much rather see some god-playing scientists fix flaws in genes that cause things like down syndrome than have to have a debate about murdering children who don't live up to some standard set by other humans fortunate enough to have made the cut when they were young.
