Bain Capital closes another business, firing Va workers

OMAHA, Neb. - Warren Buffett's company is planning to close a small Virginia newspaper that it bought from Media General earlier this year. The 10,000-circulation Manassas (Va.) News & Messenger, which began publishing in 1869, has been struggling to compete in the Washington D.C. suburbs. It will print its last issue on Dec. 30.

Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. says it has no plans to close any of its other newspapers. The Manassas closing will eliminate 33 jobs. An additional 72 corporate positions that Berkshire acquired with the Media General deal will be eliminated. The Omaha World-Herald reported the closure on Wednesday. Officials at Berkshire's newspaper unit, which is run by the World-Herald, did not immediately respond to a message. Buffett did not immediately respond to a message sent to his assistant Wednesday.

Oh wait its Obama butt buddy Warren Buffett closing a business to save money. All is forgiven. Any comments Ito?

Mittens systematically plundered AMPAD, leaving a dead husk of a once-profitable company in his wake and destroying the livelihood of thousands of workers.

Buffet is a businessman; Mittens is a monster.

I see Bain is a monstor when it saves money for investors, Buffett is a savior for doing the exact same thing. Does Obamas four year plan includes getting you out of your moms basement.

This has to end,

Hopefully, Obama will take over all of the largest companies and run them properly.

The rich must be taken on the carpet, they need to empty those fat pockets and help people like me.

I mean there is only so far my disability checks go. I can't even go on vacations, cuz the airfare is too much.

Fuck the rich.

You're none too bright, so reading this slowly may enhance your understanding.

Romney and Bain made over $100 million, a 2000% return, from a company that was driven into bankruptcy while workers, shareholders, and communities were devastated.

In 1992, Romney’s Bain Capital bought American Pad and Paper (Ampad) for $5 million. Bain began increasing the company’s debt dramatically in order to pay fees to Bain and finance rapid acquisitions. In three years, Bain had brought the company’s debt from $11 million to $444 million. At the same time, Bain was slashing wages and retirement benefits for workers.

In 1995, Bain shut down an Ampad plant in Marion, Indiana, costing 200 jobs and devastating the community. Just months after shutting the plant, Bain had Ampad take on even more debt in order to pay Bain $60 million. Bain even took millions in fees for itself when it had Ampad take on debt to acquire new companies.

In 1996, Romney’s Bain sold 40% of its shares for $15 a share soon after taking the company public. By 1998, Ampad’s stock was virtually worthless and collapse due to the company’s unsustainable debt seemed imminent.

Numerous workers and managers from Ampad and former Bain executives have contradicted Romney’s statements on his involvement with the company.

Its the internet that allows MHK to stay in his moms basement 24/7. He gets to pretend to be a man of means living off his wealth when we know he shares a room with a washer and dryer.

You are the man.

I couldn't agree with you more unless I was wearing my pants which I'm not cuz I'm jerking off at the moment.

You write very long posts, but that's still OK, by me.

Do you like my posts?

I hijacked it.

You wanna know why?

Cuz, I don't like people who go around telling other people to committ suicide.

And, give me a break, eesh does this same thing to Alias all the time, and nothing happens to him.

But, if you must know, I'm finished mocking Ito; it's starting to bore me, but that doesn't mean he's out of my radar.

Anyway, enough about me.

Tell me a little bit about yourself.

You come here often?

Making money after all is the business Bain is in.

George Allen Strategies will hire people to tie nooses and prepare crosses to be burned, some may even find work cutting eyeholes in sheets.

Well, I'm in the people business, and companies that fire people are basically holding this country hostage.

Let's get real here.

We need a pay scale. An actual agreed upon pay scale that these motherfuckers stick to.

Hopefully, Obama will address this on going problem.

Companies such as Bain buy other companies and either turn them around and make money, or shut them down and liquidate holdings and make money, right?

If those companies are not worth fixing, what do you think would happen to all those employees if Bain hadn't been involved?

Wouldn't they get laid off all the same?
