But from 1970 to date, it increased to about 40 million or from about 5% to 13% of the population. And that's just counting legal immigrants. Add another estimated 12 to 14 million on top of that which, prior to the crash, was increasing at about a 2 million clip per year.

Um, no. I don't "fear" any group of people, I'm not Yucky, and I'm not a product of the FCPS so I do have some sense of history. I am however a practical guy and I don't ignore that such a flood of people in a completely unregulated way has some significant consequences. Looking at it from some romanticized perspective of turn of the century immigration is just plain unrealistic given distinctly different real world considerations today.
