Link or I call bullshit. Perry County is serious farm country and I doubt you'll find any serious support for Obummer there except for the Free Phone Trailer Trash.

Plenty of democrats in Montgomery County, equal number of signs to Romney. I dont think you understand that Romney is not the savior that your fox news crowd thinks he is, and that many people dont think they need a savior and are doing fine.

True that. People who blindly follow Fox News can't comprehend the real world unless it follows the narrative.

Besides, it is very likely the property owner was paid for letting the local OFA campaign paint that on his barn. Something a Fox and Friend wouldn't be able to think of, since it requires thinking one more step beyond "I hate socialist anti american muslim libtards!"

Downtown Dayton and Jefferson Township are both Obama strongholds because that's
where blacks are concentrated. Do you know Mary Wiseman by any chance?

Good to see candidate Obama spending his own money wisely.

Why waste $4.00 on plastic signs when you can blow thousands on other peoples barns?

Yeah, if you read the articles, you'd have learn that people did this on their own.

OTWAY — Brian Heath, Obama for America Neighborhood Team Leader, joined Michael McCandlish, Rural and Appalachian Vote Director for Obama for America, to paint an Otway barn in support of President Barack Obama Saturday. This is one of the many barns across the state that will be painted as part of the Barns for Obama initiative.

Well that's completely different isn't it?

They spent farm subsidy money on painting their barns.

What a great country!

because the farmers dont loot, hold up banks or stand on a corner yelling obamaphone. Its how you PR yourself that counts. Welfare moms with ten kids and ten different dads doesnt play as well as some farmer standing around in bib overalls

The vast majority of subsidies go to corporate farms.

Does it hurt when you pull stats out of your ass like that or is it all stretched out now after the campaign?

Bullshit. Let's take Perry County for instance shall we?

36% of the county is farm land belonging to 50 acre or less farms.

3.9% of the county is farm land belonging to farms of 500 acres or more.

Moving right along, in 2005 in Perry County farm earnings totaled $4,238,000.

In 2005 total USDA subsidies totaled for the entire county, $3,298,490.

Tell me again where the "vast majority of subsidies" are going?

FYI...subsidies are provided so the small farmers can keep up with the corporate farms.

Good post. I am certainly not as knowledgeable on farming or farm subsidies but I do know my history. What is forgotten in current debates are a lot of the things that came from the Progressive Era (think Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, et al). The original idea back in the 1920s was to pay farmers to not overproduce as a way of protecting prices.

The subsides have been reduced and changed in the way they are handed out, but they are still a form of "socialism" that actually benefits the marketplace -- a necessary evil. Its not just for small farmers by the way.

The "free stuff" that is paid to farmers is usually also bundled up with the Food Stamp payments (more free stuff which eventually goes into the pockets of farmers). Its all "pork" payments to mostly Red State politicians and their constituents, but that is how public policy has always been made in this country and how stuff used to get done.

The last Farm Bill was in 2007. I would be interested to see whether another one will ever be passed.

The one that really gets me is the Conservation Reserve Program. Almost $30 billion has been spent in the last 15 or so years to keep farmers from farming.

$1.3 billion is paid annually to subsidize the tobacco industry. There's got to be some irony in there somewhere.

@SoylentGreen

Yep. A lot of the Farm subsidies seem like a bunch of socialism and pork. On the other hand, the farmer's profession is dependent on so many environmental factors and market forces, without some of these programs we wouldn't have the stable markets we do have for products.

A lot of it is pork, a lot of it is nonsense, but unfortunately one just has to look at what happened to the commodity markets in the 1920s and early 1930s to see what can happen without some sort of farm policy.

You miss the point, it mostly acts as pork for red states brought to you by the GOP leaders of those net loser states like Alabama, Arkansas, and Indiana. At the same time the leaders of those states yell about how the government is the problem, and how black people are stealing all the money.

The GOP is a bunch of full of shit fear mongers and they know it. Now I await the idiot wheres my free stuff guy and the racist idiot highschool post about obama phones
