So a relative of mine found an I-PHONE 5 the other day...
She immediately called 1 of the numbers stored on the phone and arranged for the rightful owner of the phone to come meet her and pick it up.

Me I would have turned the damn thing off and taken it right into a DC hood to sell the damn thing on the street and gotten myself at least $100 for it.

Did my relative do the right thing?
Am I out of line for thinking the way I do?

On the streets... its survival of the fittest right?

To answer your question, ask yourself how you would feel if it was your phone...

I can tell you how it feels... It sucks! Not even so much the phone itself but all the stuff on it.

Somebody "found" mine (3S at the time not the 5). Fortunately, they were dumbshits and called their own number from my phone and vice versa within a few minutes of "finding" it. So I kinda had them and could track them down. Had their parents (it was a high school kid), school, cops, and everyone else after them until they "found" it again and returned it.

Happened to me out in Denver in 2010. My iPhone 3G feel out of my coat pokcet as I was loading luggage into the rental car. Some lady found it and called everyone on the phone trying to get it back to me. I called my cell phone number from my wife's cell and the lady answered. She was reluctant to meet me to give me my phone back and wanted to mail it to me. I needed my phone back that day and offered her cash as a reward, but for whatever reason she just won't meet me anywhere, even in a public place. Finally, I got her to drop it off at the local police station with my name it. What a pain that was. I had to describe the phone and provide at least 5 phone numbers that were on the phone. Even after doing that, the cops were still reluctant. But at least I got the phone. The lady who found it did not give her information to the cops, so I never was able to send her a reward.

To answer your question, yes your relative did the right thing.

I do not own a cell phone so it would not bother me one bit.

Well since I am a "Very Suburban Suburbanite" I probably would have got my ass kicked in DC and had the phone stolen from myself as well and would have gotten no money for it. :(

Considering the cost of the phone it probably belonged to a rich person, they deserve to lose it anyway.

Yeah you right I really wish I would have been the one who would have found it.
