Secure Facility at Loudoun Cnty. and Russell Branch Parkway's Intersection?
Posted by: Mullen ()

Has anyone noticed the well-fenced and secure office building w/ data center near intersection of Loudoun County Parkway and Russell Branch Parkway in Ashburn? Lot's of expensive security fencing and camera monitoring with two guarded entries. What is this place?...

It belongs to Green Earth. Its not a data center, but a large paper recycling processing and sorting area. Large companies pay them to pick up their large volumes of used paper for proper removal and recycling. Used paper is trucked in from all over Northern Virginia and then sorted into containers where it is transported to several of the recycling centers in VA. You can read more about the process at the links below...

I used to work there until March, and then had to move back Cali where my family is from. The fencing and cameras, were all there when the previous tenant that owned the property. Sadly Green Earth used to have a nice gift shop and did tours, but ever since the economic crunch, they've done away with all of it.

It's a VISA regional data center as noted by Guest and re-affirmed by I SPY, above... Security employee at second/delivery entry gate confirmed last March.

Noticed this place on daily drive to work. Security seems extreme for
a private company (Visa?) Wonder if anyone has any update on this
property that appears to be Fed. Gov. related? It clearly houses a
data center with lot's of security and thinking there's more to the
story about the property.

More to the story? What do you expect? This building handles a large majority of Visa's $4.4 trillion/year payment processing network. That's $4 million processed at this facility in the time it took you to read this. Maybe they should just leave the front door open with a big welcome sign?

Thank you Swami. Do you like working there? Also, please forward hours of operation for their Gift Shop. Wishing to purchase elevated FICO scores as Xmas gifts for all of my friends and family in Sterling Park and Countryside.

Why would a large data center not have loading docks? How do you think all that equipment got in there?

It's an extraterrestrial research/monitoring site. At least that's what I was doing before Visa moved in. My division in the Bureau got cut and they moved us to Quantico.

that very sophisticated facility which happens to be built on fault resistant land is the very place that monitors every visa credit card transaction on the east coast, if not more. the facility processes appx 3 trillion us dollars annually with the ability to process 40,000 transactions a second from its network operation center. its by no means 'classified' or 'top secret' despite visainc's desire to be. the facility can monitor access control at that location as well as other locations globally which visa has an operating administrative or data storing location. despite their lack of gsa status, make no mistake, their access controling abilities are top of the line. as much as i seem to be making a joke of the facility right now, i am entitled to due to prior employment there. and visainc by no means takes the protection of their business lightly.
