Why We Have A Transportation Problem ....

Once again, it looks like we have a Democratic Governor that appears to be interested in raising taxes. He hasn't actually proposed them yet, but he is going through the same motions that Mark Warner did to lay the groundwork for his big tax increase.

I expect that the front lines for such a fight will be in the Senate... again. I would ask you to start letting your Senator and Delegate know right now that you don't want another tax increase! If they ask you how to pay for transportation, you might suggest that they shift some of the last tax increase over to transportation.

Remember, in the last tax increase in 2004, transportation did not get one red cent - not one!

Why didn't transportation get even one penny? Because they knew that there was more demand for transportation than for anything else, so they "saved the best for last." The idea is to use the one item (transportation) where more voters are feeling more pain (congestion) as the leverage to get the next tax increase. That is what I expect to see in the next session.

The most important thing that you can do right now is let your Delegate and Senator know before the session that you don't want them to increase taxes... then do it again during the session!

Finally, please refrain from bong hit comments with foul language and ignorant reponses; if you do respond, please attempt to use some logic if that is possible. I know that is asking too much!!

This guy is still ranting? I'm thinking a blow-gun with a dart injected with laxatives. Guys like him are too clinched-up. Probably doesn't get much attention at home, the office, or socially either.

Well, under Warner VA was rated the top-managed state in the nation. If tax increases are what are necessary to keep that going, jack 'em up. You're not gonna get everything you want and not pay for it.

Didn't we just pass a 'landmark' $6 billion transportation bill with a bunch of new taxes a few years ago?

Yes. It's currently being used to widen the Mexico to US highway system.
