Um...you're getting an "F" in the class. What else do you THINK is going to happen?

You'll most likely be expelled and have the F for the class. You'll also probably have plagiarism mentioned on your transcript as the reason for dismissal.

Why did you cheat? Especially on a class you elected to take?

I Wanted an A, didn't have enough time to write it.

Yes, and I want a house in Great Falls but I don't want to work for it. Great excuse.

From the NVCC website, ELI Policies and Procedures:

"Academic dishonesty includes cheating, plagiarism, and other forms of dishonorable conduct (see the NOVA Student Handbook for more detailed information). Such dishonesty will not be tolerated. Penalties can range from the issuance of failing grades (on an assignment, an exam, the course) to being referred to the Dean of Student Development for further disciplinary action, including possible expulsion from the College."

It looks like your professor is taking a somewhat draconian position on your cheating. If he's emailed the Dean, it is likely "for further disciplinary action, including possible expulsion". If I were you, I'd throw myself on the mercy of the professor and the Dean and beg not to be expelled. On the other hand, you sure don't sound contrite - just scared that you got caught.

And you didn't think the professor would run the copyright program against it?

If I were you, I'd go ahead and mention the professor's name on this forum and your name, too! That should solve the problem.

At NVCC, public execution is certainly in the realm of possibilities. They take these types of offenses seriously, and then send your mom or dad a bill for this as well in the mail.

Judging by your absolutely atrocious grammar on here, you probably got caught because your plagiarized paper actually had proper grammar and spelling. This was an automatic red flag to your professor and that's why he flunked your cheating, illiterate ass.

I plagiarize all my papers and never had a problem, just use an article spinner and check with copyscape and google to make sure its 100% untraceable. A high quality article spinner will cost you about $5 - $15 a month to use. I use SENUKE X its not cheap but i spin articles daily for SEO purposes, i believe they have a 14 day free trial.

Plagiarism will be taken VERY seriously. Think about it - what differentiates educational credentials in the US from those in China or India?

There is software out there that will automatically scour the Internet for any references to anything else out there and it as much as a paragraph is taken from somewhere else, it will mark it for further review. NoVA is no exception, it is an accredited institution of higher learning. Count yourself lucky if you don't get suspended for at least 1 year.

I have an engineering degree from overseas, as well as a Bachelor's from GMU and Master's from Marymount. Plagiarism is definitely not a way to go. Not even at NoVA.

Well it was a ELI Summer School. the class ended the 8/18/2012, but he send me this email
"Jack,
This is NOT your work. The paper you submitted was taken - word for word - from Professor Evans' page on Ancient Rome from the course site.

This is plagiarism. "F" for the course.
DDG
Assistant Professor of History"

Come on, honestly, what did you hope to accomplish by coming in here?? I'm sure some psycologist would say something about you trying to find release from guilt by mentioning it opening or something...

Worst part is...you're stupid too! You copied word-for-word right from one of the class reference texts?!? HERPA DERP! You got everything you deserved my friend. Welcome to life. Take your lashings like a man.

Are you kidding me? You went to the course website and copied it from there? I rest my case...

There are so many new original ideas you can write about and not have to take them from elsewhere. Like comparing Romans salting away the soil of Carthage to certain countries using depleted uranium shells in certain middle Eastern countries nowadays (that's what got me an A even though I really don't agree with it, just using a poetic license).

For crying out loud, read your textbook, read daily news and think for yourself. Don't copy it from others, you are not in high school anymore.

Well, it obviously was traceable dumbass.

Sites like turnitin.com easily outclass the plagarizers.

You are absolutely welcome to leave! In fact we don't even want you here then. I will absolutley pay for your one-way bus or plane ticket out of the country! ...no...really, I'm not joking. One less anti-American is very worth it.

Yes, corruption is the issue here. Because you breaking the rules and passing somebody else's hard work off as your own, getting caught and the rules being enforced is a TRAVESTY and nothing more than the corrupt system trying to keep you down.

Please share with the class your ethnicity... Please?

You get an "F" dummy. Now you can't even get into a real college but you can be elected Vice President of the United States like Joe Biden.

This post would have been even funnier if the OP had gotten an F in Jill Biden's class (she teaches at the NOVA Alexandria campus for those who still didn't know that)

hate to be serious here for a moment ... but if you borrow from several sources and attribute the sources (give the author's name) this isn't plagiarism - it's research. Apparently you borrowed from one author and didn't cite your source. If you don't know this You don't belong in college.

any professor with half a brain would still give a D at most to a paper that is mostly cited sources and no unique thought or perspective offered by the student.

clearly youre not nvcc material, therefore you should just drop out of college and go work at mcdonalds. last thing we need is another idiot with a degree who couldnt do their job to save their life.

Hey, not all of us are cut for college. you are one of them. Pick that mop and buck up and get to work. going to take you many years to save to rent a non ghetto apartment.

I got this email,.
My name is Laura; I am a Student Success Coach here at NOVA. I am here to provide support and access to resources and services to help you achieve success in your online courses here at NOVA. I was made aware you were assigned an F in your HIS 101 course due to plagiarism. I would like to know more about your situation so I can provide you with the most appropriate information and resources. Please feel free to give me a call or send me an email whichever is easiest for you. I will be in the office until 4:30 today.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.

what should I say?

Well it sounds like they are not going to expel you. Give Laura a call and tell her you made a big mistake and need her help to correct it.

And learn a lesson from this experience. Remember the Golden Rule and no cheating, lying, or stealing. They will bring you bad karma.

Google > turnitin.com and all that shit software, if you are that paranoid you can register an account at turnitin.com to make sure your paper is 100%. The article spinners are made to fool the big G, the will definitely fool the crap software the teachers are using. After spinning its still a good idea to at least change it around slightly.. sounds like the OP did not even take this step. Spin, Change, Verify, Verify, 4.0 : ).
