According to court records, former Fairfax County Planning Commissioner John C. Kershenstein, 70, of Fairfax Station has been convicted in a 1985 molestation case of a then-10-year-old girl who came forward with the charge earlier this year.
Court records state Kershenstein was charged in March and recently has entered an Alford plea in the case. An Alford plea is a legal term for a plea in which a defendant does not admit guilt, but agrees there is enough evidence in a case for a conviction.
Kershenstein is scheduled to be sentenced in October.

Don't know anything about this case, or who this guy is.
Many of these 30 year old cases seem to hinge completely on testimony of the accuser (apparently, who at the time, was 10 years old).
It seems to me that in these cases, the burden of proof is on the accused to prove that they didn't do something...and the only evidence to the contrary is testimony of the accuser, which is in some instances, many years old.
And no, I am not defending pedo's...far from it. Just interested in how these cases play out.
Sometimes it seems that these cases often run contrary to the idea of innocent til proven guilty.
Anyone know any specifics?

If he copped to an Alford plea, I bet there was more evidence than just the victim's testimony.

Maybe.
Or, advice from a lawyer telling him, although they don't have much on you, there's still a good chance a jury will convict, so let's take a plea deal...
Would be interested to see/hear details.
