Sitting in stopped traffic on Lee Highway close to Clifton Rd/Stringfellow around 5 pm today, I was looking down the power line trail and saw what I think may have been a coyote. Headed down the path towards the house development off of Stringfellow. A far distance, but there's something unmistakable about something that size, and the way it moves. I just saw this post, but that's a pretty good distance for it to have traveled in one day. Hmm

Doesn't have to be the same dOg, fool. Coyotes are everywhere out in that area. I used to live near pope head and Clifton roads and would here those boys running through the woods, yelping, all night. Twas awesome.
That whole area is like wild discovery. Always had a dozen or so deer in the back yard in the evenings, and had a family of skunks living under a bush in our front yard.

Now I'm in fairfax city and everyone is so...old...or...Guatemalan

I used to hear this horrific howling that sounded like a Tasmanian devil (out near Clifton). I've never heard anything that creepy before or since. I was told that it was probably foxes. Could that have been coyotes? Scared the crap out of me.

Talk about vermin. The local savages, ignorant hillbillies , and uncivilized third worlders are much more dangerous than any Coyote.

They are just like Wile E Coyote, fast as shit. The ones I've seen will outrun any fox.

Could have been much more mundane - amorous (feral) cats.

A couple days ago everyone in my family "noticed a smell" on BOTH floors at the corner of our VERY-suburban house - some skunk had done a fly-by, apparently, and decided to either mark territory or discourage an attack by a coyote or something. I went out the next day and saw/smelled nothing, so at least the smell fades quickly.

==========

We had a very-sickly-looking coyote run through our reach-out-and-touch-the-neighbors back "yard" awhile back - scrawny, non-existent fur on tail, injured leg - and not very large (albeit larger than a fox, for sure).

This is another Government fail. Coyotes are dangerous pack roaming animals and have been known to attck small children. They have to place in the suburbs but because ignoramuses think they are cute and they are allowed to stay.

I've spoke to animal control about this matter and they insist there is nothing they can do because they reduce the deer population.

I've heard people claim that coyotes are pack animals but I don't
think that's the case unless they're experiencing food shortages
due to very severe weather over a long period of time. Sometimes
people see a bitch coyote ith pups that haven't left her yet and
confuse them for a pack.

@Old Farte,II, Probably mange. They're noted for it.

There is a market for squirrel and groundhog skins. Check on Ebay
for further details. I've never heard of a market for chipmunks
though.

Finally, I can get back some money for all the damages they have caused me! I would send the chipmunks in for free just for good measures.

Squirrel meat is quite delicious and so is groundhog.
Groundhog though is very gamey unless properly prepared.
Strip as much fat off the meat as possible. The fat
is very rancid and will ruin the flavor. After that,
parboil the and place over mesquite chips on a bbq grill.
Don't even think about marinating as it's a waste of time
and you'll just wind up throwing it away. If you feed it
to a dog, do NOT give it the bones. Dangerous.

If you do not wish to sell your groundhog's skin, you
can make excellent shoelaces out of them as it's very
tough. The early pioneers made good use of it. Suggest
watching some YouTubes on tanning raw hides if you don't
know this already. Another good thing about groundhogs
is that you can hunt them year around in Virginia although
they are hibernators. Bon Apetite!
