I'd probably recommend calling PD and letting them know, just a friendly heads up. It could be hunters or some irresponsible fool, who doesn't realize how far bullets travel.

Hunting at night? In Fairfax? I'd seriously doubt that.

Post a pic of this supposed casing. If you found a bullet casing in your back yard, that means someone fired off a round in your back yard.

I seriously doubt this happened though.

If you were outside and someone fired a gun in your back yard, you'd know. It wouldn't have sounded like it was across 66.

Probably just fireworks, and if you actually found a spent shell casing, that means someone, at some point, fired a gun in your yard, but it wasn't last night.

If you found the casing in your back yard that means that is where the shot was fired. So if you were sitting in your back yard dont you think you would have seen this happen, or at least not thought it was on 66?

Looks like a Russian SKS-15 OP. This is serious business, you should call DHS and the FBI right away. A crack team of terrorists probably landed in your yard last night and set out on their mission: to destroy every Taco Bell in America, starting with NoVA.

The effects of this economnom terrorism cannot be overexaggerated. We could literally be talking about the end of Western Civilization as we know it. You might be the only one who can stop them. Why aren't you calling RIGHT NOW?

Now, post a pic with something to prove you didn't just search for some pics of shell casings.

if you found that in your yard it's from years ago. Casings don't get that much crap on them overnight.

That looks like a 5.7 mm x 28 MM casing, but it does look like it's been sitting on the ground for a while with all the corrosion on it.

Post another picture with the headstamp.

That thing is old. Yeah, call the police and waste their time over a casing that's 15 years old.

I once found a fairly-recently fired case once on the ground outside my work (small-caliber automatic pistol, probably a .32 or a .380). I put a paper cup over it and called the cops, who came, took my statement and bagged the casing as evidence.

Nothing ever came of it.

You live where?

Stop bitching and move.

You are with your own kind.

Either move up or move on.

Musta been one Hell of a round if the casing made it
all the way from Bull Run. I've never seen a rifle
eject one that far. Worst case I ever saw was when
a guy standing next to me at the range starting firing
a Ruger Mini-14 and a shell casing flew out and went
down the back of another guys shirt collar. He was
about 15 feet away from the shooter and started yelling
like he'd been hit with a bullet. It was HOT!

Let's see... 11 days after 4th of July when all the firewoks are now like 75% off... Yup, prolly a gunshot. Oh and that casing is so old and petinaed I can't believe you even found it above ground...if you even did, the pattern of patina is very indicative of having been buried.

Everyone on this forum is now 10% dumber for having listened to you.
