How are grades computed? If you get 4 A's for the quarters, a C on the final, and a pass advanced on the SOL, what should the final grade be?

I thnk B B+/ The sol will not impact your grade.

One of my kid's teachers factored an SOL pass advance in a base grade - I think it was an extra 10 points on the final.

The grading is erratic and, IMHO, could use some work.
Using strictly numeric weighted averaging, as many if not most teachers use, does not take into account "improvement"; one bad midterm or final can demolish a student's grade.
How to handle this? Not sure - I would assume the professional educators have pondered this sufficiently long that they decided the above method was "the best".
Too bad, because "average best methods" miss sometimes.

this is where the frustration comes in - prince william does not require the final - passing the sol can be an A or the grade equivalent of the sol score. the prince william kid will have a higher gpa when applying to college.

Colleges are given the info on how gpa is calculated in a particular district.
