Mexicans Without Borders has announced another mass protest action in the District of Columbia on May 1st in support of amnesty for illegal aliens and a halt to all enforcement of federal immigration laws. Joining Mexicans Without Borders on the traditional day of celebration for the Communist International is the usual coalition of “mainstream” political organizations. Somehow, I doubt that these folks are going to gain much sympathy from Congress, or improve their standing with the American people.
It’s an interesting collection of fringe groups. Here’s the official list:
* Barrios Unidos, ex-gang members that I saw threaten to attack Herndon residents last summer following a town council meeting
* CASA of Maryland, which helps illegal aliens register to vote in Maryland
* Mexicanos Sin Fronteras, the local arm of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation
* the Latin American Youth Center,
* the Latino Media Collective, which wants to make D.C. a sanctuary city
* the Metro D.C. Interfaith Sanctuary Network, which seeks to establish “sanctuary cities” across the United States
* the D.C. Alliance for Immigrant Justice, which protest the World Bank and supports illegal alien day laborers
* D.C. Jobs with Justice, which fights to unionize illegal aliens
* the 31-45 Mt. Pleasant St. Tenants Association,
* the Union de Trabajadores de D.C., which wants to establish a publicly funded day laborer center in DC
* the Virginia Immigrant People’s Coalition,
* the Virginia Justice Center/Immigrant Advocacy Program, which provides legal assistance to illegal aliens
* the Virginia People United, which recently staged a goofy protest on the Arizona border and applauded ecological devastation in the Sonoran desert
* the Washington Peace Center, a 501(c)(3) organization that’s not supposed to engage in this sort of activity under IRS rules,
* the Woodbridge Workers Committee, a part of Mexicans Without Borders, and another 501(c)(3) organization
* DC Students for a Democratic Society, an offshoot of the 1960’s SDS which created the Weather Underground terrorists
* the Fellowship of Reconciliation- D.C., Cold war nuclear freeze activists and pacifists,
* the Hip Hop Caucus, whose motto is “make hip-hop, not war”, although its president was arrested for assaulting a police officer in 2007
* the International Socialist Organization,
* the Richmond Defenders of Justice and Peace, (perhaps the Richmond Defender?)
* the Socialist Workers Party,
* All Souls Church Social Justice Ministries, which agitates for amnesty for illegal aliens
* CISPES, which advocated on behalf of a Salvadoran communist paramilitary organization that tried to overthrow the Salvadoran government for decades and was supported by Fidel Castro
* the CPUSA, (also known as the Communist Party USA)
* the FMLN-DC, the local supporters of the Salvadoran Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, which broke with the Salvadoran Communist Party because it opposed armed revolution
* Free the Cuban Five Committee- D.C., which seeks the release of five Cuban spies convicted of espionage in 2001
* the Gray Panthers, a leftist version of the AARP
The best part is that on the bottom of the Mexicans Without Borders web page devoted to this action, is the following: “Viste o porta motivos y banderas color rojo”, which roughly translates as “wear red or bring red flags with you to the march”. How nice it is to see that the open borders/amnesty crowd is so tightly linked with communist radicals, although BVBL readers won’t be too surprised about this.
