Springfield to Centreville Morning Commute
Posted by: Trinity ()

I have just moved to the Springfield/Annandale area and have to commute to Centreville in the morning to be at work 8am-9am. I will be getting on 495 to get to 66 to get there. I know there is heavy traffic in the mornings on 495N. Now, my question is; is there traffic on 66W in the mornings (am I going against traffic?). In the afternoons; If I'm off at 5, will I be travelling against traffic as well?

Maybe a bit longer time frame but have you considered Braddock Road. One accident on 495 can create a massive back up. Which is occurring with ever greater frequency these days.

In the mornings, 66 traffic westbound isnt that bad. But in the afternoons at 5 on eastbound 66, it may as well be 8am. It sucks and sucks bad.

As the second reply indicated - try Braddock Road, or have you considered the FFX Co. parkway? If you leave springfield around 7am, you should be in Centreville by 8.

The exit ramp to 28 from W66 is a bitch in the morning. I would recommend getting off on the Fairfax County Parkway and taking Braddock over.

66 is fine going against the traffic. West bound in the morning will fly. East bound in the afternoon gets a little backed up at times but it's nothing like the morning rush hour, that an above poster suggested.

The commute shouldn't be that bad, just getting up 495 will be the difficult part. An alternate route from Springfield would be the FFX County Parkway but that is probably a little longer than the other route with traffic.

Going 495 to 66 would be insane and out of the way. Definitely incorporate the Parkway into your commute.

Out of interest, why didn't you move more west in the county if you just moved and your job is in Centreville?

Try going west on Braddock road and right turn on Clifton Road which turns into Stringfellow road. This will put you in Fair Lakes / Centreville area.
