Lots of good comments on here about having the people who are likely to spend the most money being allowed to park closest.
But, getting to the OP's original thoughts--ARE YOU F'ING KIDDING ME?
If you line a parking lot for compact spaces up close, and then larger spaces further away, you will get more "line over park" (or, as one responder notes "park over line") problems than possibly imaginable. What makes you think that the drivers of SUVs, 7-series, F-150 (and up), etc., are going to park further away just because the spaces are larger? They are mostly going to park in the compact spaces, provided that two adjacent spaces are open, such that they effectively occupy two of those spaces.
