Yes they are excellent. I get the New York strips. They are huge. I cut it in half. Plus they are cheaper than Wegman's.

I agree with Trickie regarding the size, but believe that Wegman's does a better job of trimming the meat which is a better value for me. This is a bigger deal if it is just a couple of steaks, but the packaging at Costco is great if you are having 6-10 people for dinner.

And you can substitute BJ's for Costco....no difference. Great steaks (usually) in massive packages.

I also think BJ's house brands are as good or better than Costco. Probably my imagination though....the shit is probably made by the same companies for both BJ's and Costco....

I am pretty sure they get from the same supplier. Just up to the butcher to accept due to marbaliziation

but yeh costco is much more affordable right bout now with the slum we are going through

Also, I have found that at any grocery store, or BJs, if i notice the steak is of good quality and i want to buy from there, i will ask the butcher to cut a steak to the size i want, they will go do that.

Or, if you are close, Springfield Butcher has good quality of steaks and roasts.

don't forget about Costco's excellent return policy.

If you are not satisfied with the quality of the beef you buy from Costco,
just bring them back. Even if they have been cooked, the Costco people will
take it back.(speaking from personal experience)

Costco sells Prime in addition to Choice cuts and from my experience, the Choice steaks at BJ's have less much marbling.

Does babbling about steaks make people feel more manly? (Insert Tim Allen grunt here.)

Who here thinks that Costco raises, slaughters, and butchers its own beef? Who here thinks that Costco gets its beef out if the same giant processing and distribution streams as everybody else?

We buy the Prime NY strip loins at Costco every weekend, they go for about 180, plus the large box of 200 dollar King Crab legs and several jumbo lobster tails for a mere 100 thanks to our generous well paid jobs that we got during the Obama administration after we graduated from UDC with Jazz and African Art degrees.

BTW if we don't get another large raise soon we will be walking out just like the students to protest

Costco is better than Omaha Steaks but not as good as having a friend that raises cattle in Texas who ships you fresh meat overnight on dry ice literally slaughtered the day before it gets no fresher. I am spoiled.

For your purposes, yes Costco is fine or if you are not afraid of an adventure, try the Asian and Hispanic supermarkets (like Hmart and the supermercados), some have little butcher counters that actually can cut a mean steak.

There is a white house coming down Route 28S just after you cross that little bridge into Manassas and there is a BP gas station across the street there too on 28- they are some decent butchers too "VA meats" i think they are called, you best practice your spanish but that is where i get my real flannk fajita steak from for carne asada for parties.....never had a bad batch but be prepared to wait there is one little counter and usually like 20 customers in line on a saturday morning.

Enjoy your beef.

If I were to attend a BBQ and find COSTCO beef was being served, I would dump over the grill and leave.

The quality of Prime steaks have gone down at Costco. Todays Prime are like the Choice cuts from that same time.

That said, the steaks at Costco will always be more tender. Unbeknownst to most of you, their steaks are all blade tenderized.

That's bullshit. It is mandatory to disclose blade tenderizing because it can move surface pathogens to the inside of the meat and thereby raise the safe cooking temperature.

Costco rib roasts and ribeye steaks are consistently not very good. Their USDA Prime Strip Loins, on the other hand, are excellent--especially for under $8/lb. Buy one about a month before your party and put it in the lowest part of your fridge, still sealed in the original vacuum bag, for wet aging.

Buy a $20 twelve-inch knife off of Amazon and use it to slice your own steaks.

You people are idiots for eating factory farmed mammals - disgusting. You are eating animals that live in their own shit and then processed in it. Moreover its unsustainable. I have no problem with murdering animals and eating them but torturing them is wrong and expensive. Wild caught anything is generally ok but fuck eating shit meat.

Stop eating red meat for a year and you will wonder why you ever did eat it anyway. The grain and veg they are fed are just as delicious as the meat. Dummies paying $$$ for shit meat.
