That's true, I can't remember the last time FCPS hired new subs. The people they allow to stay in the position are getting worse and worse. And even worse is that there aren't enought subs to fill all vacancies, so teacher's aids have to fill in. And, in the long run aids don't get paid as much per hour that subs do!

That is true, instructional assistants are paid bottom of the barrel wages. They always get the short end of the stick on the job as well, because all of the leftover tasks and shit-work gets delegated out to them. The idea that the low class gentleman in the photo gets paid more per hour than an IA is infuriating. This photo should be forwarded to all the administrative assistants and principals at the school so they can track him down and fire him.

If this teacher gets fired over this I hope joey feels like shit knowing how hard it is for anyone to get work these days this man is going to struggle and probably not be able to feed his family and lose his house and end up homeless. He could have been feeling ill. But I think any kid who sleeps in class should be expelled. I have to tell the school board of my wonderful idea. They will hate themselves for not thinking of it themselves!

FCPS can kill multiple birds with one stone by requiring specialists, managers, coordinators and others who work at administrative headquarters buildings to do substitute duty on occasion. It will save money on substitutes. It should bring a small dose of reality to the bureaucrats. They also will have less time to concoct and implement unproductive schemes.

That pic says nothing. It looks like he is on his phone. That's wrong, but not as aggregious as sleeping. He's probably looking for a sub assignment. I'm on Fairfax's sub list, but never have actually worked for them because there are never any openings posted and I get booked elsewhere first. I won't be meeting their minimum days requirement so they'll probably relase me, but it doesn't matter because I never got a chance to work there anyway! If I only subbed for Fairfax, I'd probably have to be on my phone all day long trying to snag an assignment from what I've seen!

Well this is a cute picture and all...but here's the thing...just like teachers are not to take pictures or video students in a classroom setting without permission from both parents and students....it applies in reverse...students who take pictures/videos of teachers (substitute or not) can be subjected to punishment by administration...now are they going to do anything to said kid? no probably not...I agree that the sub if he's sleeping shouldn't be doing that...but the student should also not be taking pictures of the teacher in classroom setting either...both parties are doing something wrong and both should be subjected to some sort of reprimand/punishment....but don't worry sub will keep getting work....student will keep doing whatever they want and thats the real problem....the sub will get work and the student has learned he can do whatever he wants...and thus, end out becoming the sub

Subs are babysitters at all levels. What is the difference awake or asleep? They pay like 12 bucks an hour for one 8 hr. day at a time. What kind of labor is available for that work?
