Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I have heard that the circus marches its elephants from Patriot Center down 123/Ox Rd to the railroad tracks at Fairfax Station Rd. sometime after their final performance - anyone have any confirmation of this, or know where to find out about it? (Ringling Bros. PR Dept just says it is not a "scheduled public event")
They DID used to walk the elephants down 123! But as far as I know they haven't done it the past two years. We stumbled upon the madness a few years back and actually had an "elephant party" the next year and walked up to see them. If anyone hears that they'll be walking to the train station again, I'd love to know!
The circus ends on Sunday so they will move them Sunday late evening. they have to get them outa there somehow......police would know. If u find out please let me know.
Unfortunately they stopped this due to PETA which is so wrong in my opinion. It was the only time the elephants could go on a long walk which is what they are meant to do. They are no longer transported shorts distances by the trains that are roomy and have open air, now they are transported to the venues on trucks.
A Mason cop told me this. The circus just didn't want to deal with PETA anymore so they stopped.
It was an awesome tradition and I was sorry to see it go as well.
Sunday 5 pm was the last show. Five of the elephants were on trucks to DC before the show was over. That's where they put them on the train. The remaining two elephants quietly waited in the parking lot with the ponies while everything else was packed up. They sure do move fast to get on to their next location.
Saw two of the PETA protesters with their signs. Everyone ignored them.
