No, I am bummed out only because I mall walk during bad weather....

Back in the day, way back in the day, Springfield Mall was pretty awesome. I remember (sorta') when the food court was opened.

But then the white people moved out and the minorities moved in.

Springfield Mall holds a special place in my heart. We moved here in 1974 from a town that had a population of 300. Imagine my culture shock when I first visited Springfield Mall...especially browsing in Spencer's! I remember when Britches (before it became Britches Great Outdoors...might have even been Up Against the Wall at that point) was a glassed in store in the the center walkway of the mall. Might have even been a Pants Corral at one point. And Hot Sam's introduced me to the wonderful world of soft pretzels. :)

All that being said, I am not sorry to see it getting re-vamped, as ALL of its former glory disappeared a long time ago. My only concern is increased traffic, which is the last thing that area needs.

Hellz yes, the Latino population is for sure disgusted about the mall's closure. Where are we going to find perfectly good white people to car jack and murder?

Can we turn the place into a free fire zone for just one day? Help clean up the worst elements of the Springfield area?

I get bummed out when dipshits try to fit an entire paragraph into the subject line of a post.

Springfield mall was destroyed by its lack of access. Once they added all those stores outside the mall it made getting into the mall impossible. Thank God I can jump on the Parkway instead of Francoinia Rd to avoid that mess.
Even gettting those great tacos at the place on the lower level by what is now Target was almost worth the headache of traffic, I said almost. Damn I miss those tacos and beer.

The bursting of the real estate bubble really helped kill Springfield Mall. That whole neighborhood (don't know its name, but with the Western street names--Bowie, Alamo, Custer, Pioneer, etc.) went under. Virtually every house ended up a foreclosure. And there were other areas nearby that ended up the same way. The mall couldn't survive being surrounded by a dead zone.

Taco Laredo, I think it was called. You do know the health department busted them in the early 80's for not using real meat. The health inspector found numerous cans of opened dog food. The owners denied it, but the place closed a few years later.
