If I am involved in a street race in Fairfax County and one of the participants in the race crashes, am I obligated to pull over and help them?

If I am involved in a street race in Fairfax County and one of the participants in the race crashes, am I obligated to pull over and help them?

I am a skilled driver.
I do not want to be arrested or charged with a hit and run because somebody else in the race could not complete a sharp turn etc...

Can I be charged for a hit and run even if my driving skills were not the reason for the crash?

Why are you racing on public roads? Are you supposed to be Vin Diesel or something?

First off, you shouldn't be racing on a public roadway. However, I won't lie and say that I never did it before when I was a teen, BUT, I never raced on crowded roadways, never on any curves or turns, and never for a distance. If you're going to do it anyway, at least try to use some common sense and be aware of your surroundings.

Yes, btw, if some car does crash, you need to help. Leaving an injured person to possibly die is an asshole move if there ever was one. If you get charged, then suck it up and learn from it, but don't ever be such a punk that you deny someone help.

Hey, mang...this is NOVA...when someone crashes during a street race you are required by law to either back up and run them over or leave them there to get encrispified...

Legally you're not obligated to help. But read up on the felony murder rule in VA. If they die you're probably screwed.

if it's a minivan that crashes, stick around to see if it starts to burn...if so, then smile and drive off.

I believe if someone dies while you are committing a crime with them, then you can be charged with involuntary manslaughter. So yes, it's better to keep driving from a law perspective.

However I had this happen to me years ago. The second car went of in a ditch and overturned. I came back and stopped to help. My car was parked the wrong way on the street and the passenger door was left open on it when the police and fire arrived. I believe some lady in a minivan who called it in the accident stopped and told one of the officers that we both had been racing.

The officer questioned me, asked why my car was parked the wrong way, was I racing the car??? I said no to all the questions. The officer then said I know you were racing, I'm glad to see you came back, most people take off. I'm just going to give you a verbal warning if I catch you again I'm to throw the book at you. Your free to go, drive safe.

Dude. You're an asshole if you think you can race anywhere in Ffx county. Just go into a garage, close and seal the doors, and race in place. I'll stand outside with a weedeater and you can pretend like your racing another ricer.

Drag strips suck.

Why would I want to race somebody else in a straight line or on inside an oval shaped track?

I 'm all about long distance races in traffic on major roads, highways, through residential streets and even back alleys.

Basically from one location to another location. Who ever gets there first WINS.

So much more fun that way. Driving skills are put to the test. Its not always all about who is the fastet although it defintely helps if you are not a slow driver.

For this I've never understood the appeal of NASCAR, all they do for hours is go in an oval. I guess watching the crashes is something entertaining.

Here is an example of a street race I participated in back in the day.

Tower Records GW campus in DC to Tower Records Little River Turnpike in Alexandria.

Just for the hell of it.
First ones to physically step inside of the store at the bottom of the escalator WIN.

We reached speeds of up to 90 MPH at times.
Me and my passenger must have been standing at the front entrance of Tower for over 10 minutes before the other driver and his passenger pulled in to the parking lot.
We lost sight of them as we were passing by Arlington National Cemetery.

What did we get out of it?
They paid for our dinner over at the pizza hut down the street.

The only reason you ignorant kids street race is because you don't have the balls or skill to actually take it to a real track, in a controlled setting, to race. Pick a local dragstrip, or go out to Summit Point or VIR and show us what you really have.

Unitl then, you're just an immature pussy.

This. Its a lot harder to race on a track with people who know what they are doing instead of punk kids who are fucking retarded - especially for 'going to TJ'.
