Flat in Great Falls. Not a $1 change in assessment. Guess that means the rate will go up.

If Sharon Bulova says I need to pay more that is good enough for me. I know she will spend my tax dollars wisely like putting up section 8 cases in luxury condos or Fairfax becoming the biggest landlord in the county.

Neighborhood in Alexandria, along Route 1 - assessments up 10-25%. Wow. The neighborhood dropped more than most after 2008, but the bounceback has begun.

Homes prices in Alexandria off Braddock/Lincolnia tumbled down by 3%....even lower than they were two years ago. It's really depressing to hear that there was an average increase of 3% throughout the county and your neighborhood depreciated :(

It's real depressing!!
My assessment decreased by $25K, never ever had that much before and I have lived in the same home for over 20+years.
Live in an area well known in the middle of Fairfax Parkway-Beulah-Franconia-S. Van Dorn, what gives????????

I blame my old local SB. I am still wealthy and live on 5 sweet acres but still.

Funny you should mention that...I own a house about a mile from Clifton - subdivision, nice but nothing special except for all the trees. I also own a house in Falls Church near the Metro - 50s rambler. The Falls Church home has retained its value over the years - a little up and down, but very stable. The other house has dropped $150,000 over five years (it went up a little with this recent assessment). Location, location, location...

Just happy my assessment still comes in about $50,000 below real estate appraisal prices. No increase between 2011 and 2012. Almost 100% increase in assessed value in last 10 years. Not complaining at all.

Ours remained the same for 12 as it was for 11.

*prepares for tax rate hike*

I sure hope so - we consume a lot less in the way of cops responding to domestic disputes and firefighters responding to car fires/arsons/etc. The 1% knows how to keep our lives in order.

Ft Hunt area is up
Springfield/Franconia near Metro is up
Lorton is flat with no change
Haymarket/Gainseville is down

Seems the closer to DC or near a metro it is up; the further you go away from the City it goes from up to flat to down.

Hmm no increase in your taxes? Send me your address and bank balance so we can look into this problem.

When did you have an appraisal and why?

I live in West Springfield. Mine went down. Must be those crappy streets. Or the high school that is never going to get renovated. In either case, I feel I should pay less since I get a lot less. I have one kid who is not in GT or Sped or any special program. We overpay by miles and get substandard. I'm sure he won't get into a state school either (we're just so lucky to be here).

I've never used any "welfare" or state services in my life and, after 38 years of working, am debt free. I'm sure I have made some horrible decisions.

Lowest assessment since 2004. Our entire neighborhood dropped 8 percent in value. My backdoor neighbors, (abutting my property) got a 3 percent increase. It must be that brick/vinyl McMansions on third-acre lots are much more valuable or desireable than all brick houses on 1 acre lots. Everybody cheers lower assessments; but try to sell your house now. Every realtor and buyer looks at those assessments. I didn't want to sell my house in 2009; now I need to sell and it just dropped $34k in value. Fairfax also forcing those with septic tanks that have sewer available to hook in now. My sewer connection fee will jump from $8900 to $23,500 on July 1. The fees are insane. I enjoyed Fairfax County for the past 30 years; but now it's the last place I'd live.

We are in Virginia Run in Centreville and our assessment
jumped 13% (and we have one of the cheapest/smallest
models)---should we appeal for a review?
