Walmart Supercenter
Posted by: BackgroundInfo ()

Any word on the pending opening of the Walmat Supercenter at Manassas Mall? I heard sometime late this year, but they haven't started bulding the damn thing.

FYI, the closest Supercenter to FFX is Fredericksburg or Culpeper.

I don't know when it is going to open, but apparently the mall management bullshitted Wal-Mart when the company signed on to build the store. I have heard that the mall systems (sewage, electricity, etc) are inadequate to serve a store the size of the proposed Super Wal-Mart. Not sure if it is hung up in litigation or what. If it is, it may never get built.

Yeah, looks like they demolished the old buildings and cleared the area but no activity. Talked to the current wally-mart mgmt and they say they are still on for an October opening.

How long does it take to build a walmart anyway?

Target will never be as good as a Walmart. Will they close the Walmart less than half a mile away from Manassas Mall though?

Target is better than Wal-Mart. It caters to a more intelligent crowd. A crowd smart enough to know that the other Wal-Mart is more than half-a-mile away from the Manassas Mall. (Rumor is they will close the old Wal-Mart next to Home Depot near I-66).

Target is no match for walmart. 'Wegmans has lower prices than supertarget and about three time the selection. A brand new supercenter is clean and bright.

They will close the one next to HD once the mansassas mall supercenter is open. Even with litigation, they are stiking to their guns to open in late 2008.

That's never stopped any business from building before. Grease enough palms and you can build whatever you want.

Heard that mall management will need to upgrade the infrastructure to meet the needs of the store. It will open in the Spring 09. As far as I know, Walmart is not backing out.

Amazing, walking into manassas mall is like walking into another country.

I think bringing in a new Wal-mart Supercenter will create competition and will lower prices. Considering all the taxes we pay here in Virginia, lower prices for groceries and goods are welcome... I don't know about all you people who prefer to go to chains like Super Target and pay higher prices for food, but I like the idea of having a Supercenter in my neighborhood.

BTW, I think it's opening in 1st or 2nd quarter 2009. Nothing official on their website yet.

I sent Manassas Mall an e-mail and they confirm that the Wal-Mart under construction will be a Supercenter. The web site for the mall has a site plan that shows the store being perpendicular from the back of the mall, parallel with Rixlew Lane. Projected opening date is Summer 2009. Hopefully Wal-mart can get the store open sooner than that.

Hey all,

I drive through Ashton Ave. every morning on my way to the VRE (Train Station) and I see a lot of construction work going on. I don't think Walmart is going to back-out of building the Supercenter so expect to see their new store in the Summer of 2009, per an article I read on the Washington Post. I have been praying to God that Walmart will open up a Supercenter in our area. This just means that I can find cheap groceries and keep more money in my pocket. Thank you Walmart!

Knock Walmart all you want, but it's the only retailer with stock going UP!

If you haven't been in a Walmart lately, you may be surprised. They offer many of the same name brand products as other stores, at lower prices.

Walmart has come a long way and modeling it's stores (wide aisles) and fast check out after Target. I also shop Target because its close by, but when you do a side-by-side price comparison, Walmart will win. Depending on what is on my list, I will make the trek to the Fair Lakes Walmart rather than shop the Reston Target.

Intelligent shoppers, in this economic environment, are very price oriented. There is nothing intelligent about paying 20% more for the same products just for the sake of store name recognition.

A dollar here and a dollar there, before you know, it turns into real money.

Good pics. Someone needs to keep the message alive.

If we let those bentonville assholes destroy our heritage, we'll lose all that is good about being a "southern".

We can't give up the "southern" way of life. Fuck all those NOVA assholes who do not appreciate all the great work we southerns have done to defend the white race.

Oh, wait, isn't it the uneducated white southerners who benefit from having a discount retailer who outsources all of its goods to communist china????

Now I'm confused.

Was wondering the same thing myself. It is supposed to open July of this year, but can they put up the building in 5months? I think not.

Also heard that the BJ's in fair lakes is closing (not surprising) and they will convert the FL walmart into a supercentere, like they are doing in Sterling. It has been reported also that a supercenter is going up in Arcola.

Have you also noticed the walmart ads in the Sunday WaPo have food, even though you can't buy them at the current locations? WTF???? I think they are getting us prepared....

No word on whehter the Filmdex will become a supercenter.

The Manassas Supercenter is scheduled to open late summer; it will replace the Walmart near I66.

The Sterling Walmart will be converted to a SuperCenter by mid-summer.

The building of South Riding's Walmart SuperCenter is scheduled to be finished in August/September '09.

Fairfax Walmart is no longer getting the remodel that was scheduled to begin in March '09 as it has been approved to become a Super Center in 2011.

Where in the heck would they expand the Fair Lakes (I assume this is what you mean by Fairfax) store to? There is some space between the existing store and BJ's, but it doesn't seem like enough for a Supercenter.

BJ's is not renewing their lease and Walmart has opted to buy that lease and expand over their gravel pit currently inbetween Walmart and BJ's. I believe BJ's lease ends late 2010 or early 2011.
