Merchants wants over $1000 to fix muffler and exhaust problems. Is there someplace to get this fixed by welding? The car is a piece of crap not worth $1000.
Take it to George's automotive on Route 28 south in Manassas Park in the Yorkshire area as you are heading towards manassas on the right. It is just across from the yorkshire gas station. He hooked me up- I drive a piece of crap too and had a HUGE exhaust leak/hole in my pipe and he got it all welded up in like 30 minutes while I waited and only charged me an hour labor and NO parts even though I saw him use some exhaust piping and sheetmetal pieces while working!
I passed inspection just fine with his spot weld job- midas wanted to charge me $900 on a new catback for a car I paid $500 for. GTFO with that BS!!!! ALL chains are about is making money so of COURSE they will sell you brand new everything when all you needed was a little patch....
I think VA inspection is a big rip anyway. If they insist, it should just be tires, brakes, lights, and I can see the hood latch and door latches. Other than that who gives a shit? Oh wait they do- more $ its just another tax...
FYI- George(the owner) is a little deaf I believe (has a hearind aid) but if you look at him and speak so he can read your lips he will understand you and be able to help. Really nice guy.
There is a guy named Urfan who has a small shop in Springfield on Backlick Rd. I don't know what its called but it is really close to the Outback, maybe a couple hundred feet after it heading towards Old Keene Mill.
I had the entire exhaust on my Silverado replaced and installed for $450 and I couldn't be happier.
The location sucks and its a bitch to get to, but he does awesome work.
I'm a graduated welder and I think I can help you with your problem. I think that I can solve your problem much more cheaper. Write to me if you are interested.
A rattling old muffler isn't really a major problem but with most cars you can just order an OEM catylitic converter and bolt it in yourself for a couple hundred bucks. That's usually all it takes to pass emissions just get new O2 sensors while you're at it.
