I want to buy my little sister tickets to a teeny bop show at Patriot Center...

I can't even believe I'm posting this here. My sister is 12 and has a birthday coming up. She really wants to go to see the Big time rush show (I don't even know...) in March at Patriot Center. I'm assuming they're popular because the show is sold out and that shit is reselling on stubhub for 3x the original price. Anyways...does anyone know any way to get tickets to a sold out show around here? Is craigslist worth a shot? I posted here because I thought maybe people know some people or something. I want to get her two tickets, she's done really well in school and deserves it. Anyways...Big time Rush tickets at Patriot Center in Fairfax. Anyone? This is embarrassing.

I keep checking stubhub for two tickets that are well priced. I'm still waiting for something affordable to come along. Thought I'd post here and see if anyone knew anywhere else I could look, or maybe if they knew anything about Patriot Center's sold out policies. It was a long shot.

I actually have been on the lookout as well for my daughter. It's a shame that there's no real policies to keep scalpers from buying up all of the tickets and reselling. This happens far too often with popular events.

I think economists have a term for this... Capitalism? Was that it? Free Market something or other?

Don't be a smartass. Just because it's allowed doesn't make it right. Scalpers are scum.

I always see this happening with shows aimed at younger demographics. I remember when hannah montana was popular, her tickets resold for insane amounts. I guess it's because they know rich NOVA parents will do anything to please their snotty kids. Hope your sister is a good kid that deserves to go. Good luck finding her tickets that are affordable.
You can try this now or, if push comes to shove, you can do it near the time of the show but one thing I have learned is that there are always tickets available. You need to go to Patriot center and see if they have any tickets available. Calling them on the phone will not help you, you need to go there in person.
This has worked for me many times at many venues, especially the old Nissan Pavilion.
Other than that just follow the advice of others in this thread and see what happens.

Do you think if I went down there within the next week they'd be able to help me? The show is on March 2, is that too soon? Do you know anything about the process? I've never bought tickets at their box office before haha. Thanks for the advice :)

You can go now and ask them, if they say they don't have any then go again in a week. They often have tickets reserved for various people who end up not being able to make the show and so they end up having extra tickets. This is not the only reason for extra tickets but just an example of one of them.
I suggest you go to Patriot Center and inquire about tickets. Remember that calling them on the phone will have poor results and so you need to go there in person.

Scalpers serve those with money that don't have time to stand in line.

Why didn't you take your daughter/sister to the Free BTR Concert on the Mall last summer?

Last summer we were out of town visiting family the whole time - if we'd been in the area I'd have gladly taken her. She really wants to see the opening band...One Direction I think. They've not toured in the US before. So if I can get some affordable tickets to this show I'd like to surprise her with them. I'll either go with her or she can take a friend.

My kid is sixteen, she's always going to events like this. I can't keep track of all of the bands she likes. She's old enough to be dropped off and go in herself.

Maybe your kids are still young. When they're a certain age it's okay to stop being a hover parent. If you do have older kids, I feel sorry for them.

I would tell her to just wait and go to that one, but the more I talk to her about it, the more it seems she doesn't care about Big Time Rush and wants to see the opening band One Direction. I will mention that to her though to see if I can shift her interest haha.
Update #2: I just went to the Patriot Center box office and I couldn't get anything, the girl working there said no there's no reserved tickets, no student tickets, and no they're not going to release more tickets. So I guess I'm SOL unless the prices on StubHub drop or someone pops up and is selling tickets/knows someone. Thanks everyone for the tips though :)
