Fairfax school buses

Why do they take so long when they stop?! This morning as I was coming to work, a Fairfax county school bus stopped at around 7:30, waited for the kids to get on the bus (they seemed to be kids from high school), waited for them to close their umbrellas, waited for the kids to sit down...waited for about 5 minutes for a dumbass that must have forgotten something 'cause he got off the bus went running, returned and yet waited for another kid that was running from across the street. We were there for 10 minutes!!! should it be that if you aren't at the bus stop when the bus arrives you have to find another way to get to school?

If you were there 10 minutes you had time to get out and talk to the driver and find out the answer to your question. I swear people in Fairfax bitch about everything, pretty soon they will have to invent things to complain about

I'm sure the driver was aware of what would happen if Little Boo Boo
got wet or was late handing in homework because the driver wouldn't
wait. Helicopter parents would be ringing the Principals phone off
the hook. Bitch time!

It wasn't high school at that time. High schoolers generally get on and sit down quick.

It was probably elementary kids and they screw around forever getting on and finding the perfect seat. And that's after chatting with every kid on the way to that perfect seat. If there's a lot of them it takes time (10 minutes is bullshit however). I guarantee the driver was yelling for them to hurry up.

Bottom line: It ain't a MetroBus, we are NOT allowed to take off until everybody is sitting down. Buses arrive about the same time everyday, you should adjust your time a little to avoid them.

Possibly a middle school bus, unlikely it was ten minutes, hell, two minutes feels like forever when you're waiting behind a bus.

Couldn't be high school, since they all start at 7:30 or earlier. And yeah, the driver can't move until everyone is seated. They bitch at the kids, but there are plenty of kids with a 'sense of humor' that delay sitting just to irritate the drivers waiting for the bus to move. Probably the same ones that stroll slowly across the road when walking. But chances are it was some disorganized middle school kid that can't get his shit together.

Change your route or time it differently to avoid the bus. Or move someplace with less kids and therefore less buses. School buses are a part of life here, deal with it.

Chances are someone has missed a light because you were messing with your phone instead of paying attention to the traffic light and when the cars behind you honked, you made the light but people behind you didn't get through.

That pisses me off more than the school buses ever will.

I was fortunate enough to skip the busses for a while. Today due to the weather people drive much slower... I agree with you that the idiots messing with their phone are far more annoying.

I TRY TO HIT AS MANY KIDS AS POSSIBLE WHEN DRIVING THROUGH A SCHOOL ZONE.

I USE A POINT SYSTEM TOO. ITS 20 POINTS FOR EVERY KID I HIT, DISABLED CHILDREN ARE WORTH DOUBLE.

Hey CAP BOY, your mother has your lunch ready, pause the game and come up out of the basement. Your GED arrived today and Mom cut the sandwiches into the the shapes you like just for the occasion.

I think any parent would be upset if the bus driver intentionally left their kid standing on a corner.

It's a safety matter also, imagine if something happened to the kid because he was left on the street.

This AM I came up on two busses stopped on the street with red lights flashing, doors open and nobody in sight, either on the sidewalk or the street. Fortunately the drivers saw me and turned their lights off so I could pass. Who knows...maybe it is the first stop on their routes.

Tisdadt got pissed off about SLEEP so he made sure his organization moved a bunch of bus stops onto main roads.

Lesson Learned (again) - Never piss off a bureaucrat.

Tisdadt approved of the closing of Clifton ES. Now you have a lot more busses on major roads. This has made commuters and kids alike have a longer commute time. Thanks FCPS!

The reason buses stop and activate their lights with nobody around is to "document" the stop. FCPS buses have tracking systems that, among other things, record exactly where and when those red lights are activated.

If they don't do this and a parent calls saying the bus never showed up, they make the driver go back. If it's documented that the bus was there on time, then it's "Sorry, you missed the bus".

Please. That is one Martha Stewart sandwich. I wish. I think we need a Martha like study here in Nova.

We sit in shit traffic, deal with DC and the metro.

We need a intervention.
