29 Diner Review

Tonight, my wife and daughter went out for some "power shopping" and left me
alone for the first time in about 6 months. I didnt feel like cooking and decided
to walk for about 10 minutes and have a bite at the 29 Diner on Rt. 50 just off
Chain Bridge in Fairfax City. Its been five years since my last visit and I was impressed.
First of all, this establishment seems to have a handle on the "real people"
in Fairfax City. No phonies or "profilers" here. A customer they all called
"Grampa" seemed to the the man to ask for advice on everything from fixing
plumbing to how to deal with a traffic ticket. He's in his early 70's I think,
and has seen it all. First impression, a really great guy to know.
My waiter, "Joseph" was extremely attentive to his customers and the second
I sat down, he was handing me a menu and taking my order. Within a minute
after ordering my cheesburger and fries, I could hear it sizzling on the grill
and as soon as the cook put it on the plate, Joseph was placing it on the
table in front of me. It was HOT and the fries were perfect.
The service was not only exceptional, but the Manager seemed to be in tune
with everything. I have been reserved in my opinion of this establishment before,
but I would now recommend for a good meal at a good price. If you're looking for
a gourmet experience, its not the place to go, but for me, the breakfast
menu looks inviting. You can also have a cigarette at your table and no
one is going to start screaming. This is what I call "Atmosphere"!
Bon Appetite!
