66 EAST

I drive through 66 E after work daily, I enter it from Route 50 and take exit 60. At this times (after 4pm) the right lane is closed and there is a huge sign that tells you the hours this lane is open (rush hour) and is also marked with an X on the overhead. Why do so many morons still drive on that lane? Where is the police at this time when this occurs on a regular basis, yesterday a van full with kids was almost hit by one of this idiots who are too good to drive behind us that follow the law. Where could I report this?

Call 703-691-2131 - tell the police dispatchers how upset you are...

Actually, you'd be better off talking to your state and county reps. One citizen complaint won't really change anything. A call from a state Rep, on the other hand, will likely get some action taken...

Be aware though that any action taken will be similar to the "50 means 50" campaign on 7100; a month of high profile enforcement followed by a whole bunch of nothing...

ACtually, you can dial #77 for the State Police and report it as well.

Solution to Fairfax County Parkway problem: raise speed limit to 55.

Solution to 66 problem: convert shoulder lanes to permanently open regular lanes.

I agree with you, they should also limit the times trucks drive through 7100 and if they do they must stay on the right. This morning we had two trash trucks one on the right and one on the left lane driving at 40 MPH!

The interstate is owned by VDOT. They turn the 'X' on and off.

The road regulations on Interstates are enforced by the Virginia State Police.

another problem right around there is on 66E when you are exiting to 50W, the far right lane gets a huge red X right before the exit, forcing you to change lanes, right before you are exiting. they should just extend the lane's usage about 0.1 miles (i.e. take one red X down) --problem solved!

Absolutely! this is the biggest issue there, you don't really have a choice but to jump onto the X lane in order to exit.

Just exit, once the lane turns from solid white to dotted white, you can exit. That X sign is just there to tell you any other use of the ongoing lane is prohibited. But you're allowed to begin your exit once the white line changes.
