Driving past 7 corners the other night stopped at the 24 hour Shoppers Food noticed that the Syms clothing store was closed. Never was the same since Syms moved from its long time home down the street. I didn't realize Syms had bought Filene's Basement a couple years back and I guess that purchase of a troubled business, amongst other factors economic led to Syms eventual downfall.

another one bites the dust

Yep, I heard in November that they were going under... Just like now, nobody cared then either.

Their going out of business sale was crazy, I got 5 athletic cut suits for a little under 1400 , another 800 in alterations and your talking 2200 for brand name italian made suits. There were asians checking out with 5 and 6k worth of merchandise that was probably valued at 10 to 15k pre sale

Syms and Filenes are part of the same group. They both closed just prior to Christmas.

Death also contributed to Sym's downfall. Good ole Sy punched out in '09 at the age of 83. Sometimes the kids just aren't interested in taking over the family biz.
