Wolf Trap this Summer
Posted by: FUNdamental ()
Date: February 27, 2008 01:48PM

They just added James Taylor for June 18, 2007. George Thorogood, Hootie, Kenny Rogers, Donna Summer, Jethro Tull (without Peter Frampton), Gretchin Wilson, Gladys Knight,Trisha Yearwood, Gypsy Kings, and Gordon Lightfoot shows were added last month. So far pretty lame, but more summer tours will start booking soon. I hope they get Squeeze but they have not sent out booking releases yet. Also starting to book summer tours are the Foo Fighters Alanis Morrisette/Matchbox 20, and Mark Knoffler.

How can you call Jethro Tull, Gypsy Kings, and Gladys Knight lame?

I just purchased Aqualung on CD, Gladys Knight has been around for a while but no one can compare to her, and the Gypsy Kings are lots of fun to see live!

Tull is boring live, Midnight Train to Georgia is one of the best songs ever written and performed, but not much more there for me after that. Gypsy Kings? Aren't they mexican?

I thought that Squeeze toured locally last summer (maybe 2006). Do you like them live? They always seemed to be a better studio band.

Yes, Squeeze toured the UK then the US last summer and played Wolf Trap last August. They did go into the studio to record new tracks last fall, but there has been no word on how well (or not well) the sessions went and if Chris even showed up sober, and what if Glenn's temper was in check.

I think the plan was to tour in the summer of 2008 in support of a new material CD. At this point, the band has two UK festivals booked for the last part of June 2008, and there is nothing on the schedule until Glenn does a UK tour with his new band "the Fluffers" in October. There is plenty of time to book a Summer US tour, but as all the booking agents report, no booking releases for Squeeze have been sent out. So as far as I can tell, the band (Chris & Glenn) has not decided yet to do a US tour this Summer.

King George Street and Vanity Fair are awesome songs to hear live.

The REAL question is whether Chris Issak will do his "impromptu" song on the lawn this year. I am surprised every time I see it.

I hate it when Chris Isaak, George thorogood, or Buffet run out to play for the lawn people. I pay good money to sit close to the stage, and I deserve better treatment than those smelly low lifes on the lawn.

As we all know, people who prefer the lawn at wolf trap are the lowest form of human trash there is. I guess those performers, the ones that go the extra mile and give the lawn people a brief taste of what the classier people see, must train themselves to keep their chin up as to see just above the heads of the gluttonous cheap pigs that have staked out their sty on top of their dirty grease stained blanket. As we all know, looking at lawn people directly for a few minutes would make the performers sick.

Well, I guess if you cant afford pavilion seating, the beer or wine being served there, and professionally prepared food, the lawn must suffice.

Cellar Door (Live nation) has been busy this week. They just booked Billy Joel for a date in Virginia Beach, and are trying to fit him in for Nisan Pavilion the last week or so in June, and they stole the B-52's/Cyndy lauper show from Wolf Trap and will be puting it at DAR in early June.

Crosby Stills & Nash
Mark Knopfler

I would never consider sitting on the lawn with all those filthy, sweaty, convivial pigs. Lawn people suck!

Tips for you lawn people going to see a Prarie Home Companion Saturday;

A) Get there early, like noon for a 5:45 PM start, this will keep your fat asses and coolers out of the way of pavillion people who don't show up until 5:30 PM.
B) Bring enough food for lunch and dinner; since you are too cheap for pavillion seating you will freak out over food and beverage prices at Wolf Trap.
C) Bring high powered binoculars because you will be so far back.
D) wear caps and bring plenty of bottled water; their is no roof over the lawn and we don't want you to get sunstroke after drinking all that cheap wine you are famous for.
D) Bring plastic wine glasses; Glass ones may break and cause injury to those stumbling around your blanket.
E) avoid bringing food with mayo on it. There are enough people throwing up on the lawn, we don't need food poisong victims upchucking as well.

Enjoy the show!

Drawing parallels to Woodstock is interesting. Lawn people at Wolf Trap are, as were Woodstock attendees, filthy by the time the show started.

Another interesting parallel: alot of the same people attending the Prairie Home Companion show are the same people who went to Woodstock specifically to see Sha-Na-Na.

I doubt it as a whole; Pavilion people at wolf trap appreciate a good show and act with dignity. Lawn people, on the other hand, are stuffing their faces with junk food and are, many times, happy like a "pig in mud."

To each his own. Price isn't an issue. I just don't like being trapped in a seat for a couple of hours. I guess because I use to do a lot of airline flying(like six times a week). On the lawn I can stretch out and relax.

You do get screwed over if it rains, but that's the gamble you take with lawn seats.

FYI - Squeeze is one of my favorite bands, I have all their albums.

I dunno . . . I saw a show on Thursday and had front orchestra tickets, great seats . . . until . . . a 250 lb. girl sat next to me and almost completely eclipsed me. I felt really bad for her, she was so huge and the seats are all plastic and almost uncomfortable. I know she felt my elbow in her side but I was on the armrest first.

The lawn was looking pretty good for the first half of the show. She moved at the intermission and I was happy until I realized her huge body was blocking the wind - I froze a little bit.

Seats in the first three rows of Wolf Trap are special; that is why they cost twice as much as other pavillion seating, are set aside, and don't go on sale to the general public unless there is a return.

I am taking my wife to Wolf Trap this Saturday night to see Riverdance for our wedding anniversary. We are sitting about as close as you can get in the pit, front row.
Here's the kicker, I just checked and there has been over 1500 tickets purchased for the lawn for Saturday night's show.

Lawn for Riverdance? It is a dance show, who the hell thinks sitting on the lawn for a visual performance is an acceptable option? Idiots! "Hi Honey, lets go to wolf trap to see Riverdance, I got us lawn tickets so bring the binoculars. Don't count on seeing the clogging feet, though."

Don't these people think things through? Do you think the people at Wolf Trap laugh their arses off every time they sell a lawn ticket for a dance show?

I will be polite and not stand up during the performance.

Veteran's of Wolf Trap buy lawn seats. That's what makes Wolf Trap so special is that you can take your own blanket, wine and food in.

I'm surprised 1500 people still want to see River Dance. I thought River Dance was old news?

Do they change the River Dance show every year?

Yes, they change around some scenes or choreography every two years. Some popular dancers or programs stay longer.

Second, so what? It is going to rain tonight. That 1,500+ lawn scum, with their large coolers, blankets, cheap wine, and massive food, are screwed.
