Uninsured Motorist Fee

Does anyone pay the $500 fee instead of insurance? Does this ever make sense?

It only makes sense if you have zero assets and never expect to.

That $500 provides NO insurance coverage. It's just a fine for not having it. Fuck somebody up and they (and/or their insurance company) will get a judgement against you that can get your pay garnisheed, licensed revoked, and fuck up your credit so you'll never get a decent job, etc.

Until the first crash you get into. Its irresponsible to not have insurance. Its like saying its cheaper to not have health insurance since your healthy but then you expect everyone else to foot the bill when something goes wrong

With all the illegals in Fairfax who do not carry any insurance or even have a drivers license there is good reason you should have auto insurance.

Is that a fact, or are you just talking out your ass?

I haven't seen any evidence to suggest that Fairfax is a hotbed for illegal immigration.

Are you suggesting that one is capable of discerning who is illegal and who is not simply by looking at them?
How absurd.

A friend of mine paid the uninsured motorist fee. But a little background her ex had 3 accidents within 6 months. None were major but doesn't look good when you are wrecking that many cars. They split she went to get her own insurance and progressive wanted $900 a month. Said after a year they would readjust. Instead she chose uninsured motorist fee and to put away $500 a month for a just in case. She's hoping by next year she can get it for cheaper.

A few years ago when I was under 25, Progressive was by far the cheapest, but that is becaude they use credit score as a factor. If you have good credit, they might be the way to go. They were a couple hundred bucks cheaper every 6 months.
