This would never happen in Fairfax. Too many lawyers in Fairfax. God help any Fireman that is spotted by a nosey neighbor, just standing around.

That fee is for rural fire protection. Generally speaking, if you live within the city or town limits, your taxes cover this. But if you live out in east bumfuck 20 minutes outside of a one horse town this fee applies to you. It would never fly in N. VA because the area is so densely populated and your county taxes pay for the county fire department.
Down where my dad lives in the deep south, this is common practice when you have a lot of spread out rural homes that are tens of miles from the nearest official town. In Virginia, this sort of fee could possibly work to the rural western counties along the 81 and 29 corridors, but not in a place like Annandale - although one could argue that there a lot of places N. VA that should be burned to the ground as it is.

You could live next door to the fire department here and still lose your crib...by the time the hose pullers decide how to park, get dressed, argue who's holding the nozzel, did anyone pause the fucking Xbox, run the ladder into the power lines, then console each other in a big circle jerk, you might as well poured gas on the fire to prevent prolonging the inevitable.

Theyre idiots who probably just hate all forms of government. A house in my neighborhood caught fire on the roof and they had the fire out with minimal damage done. The house was good as new within a week

I would never call the Insurance Industry Loss-Prevention Team (aka Fire Dept) if my place was on fire.
I have full replacement coverage and I want a brand new house, not some halfass, slapped together rebuild of a partially burned structure.

Yes, I just love filling the boots up with money on county time, in a county uniforms, and using county vehicles/gas to do so. We generally every year donate about 100K yet all get a cut of the funds from us blocking traffic while you all fill the boot.
