Dulles Airport- Passengers must submit to full body scan and possible strip search

Sobriety Checkpoints- Without cause, you are stopped and searched

Speed Traps- Black boot police officers hide behind bushes.

Schools- Students must wear ID
School doors are locked
Discussion of intrusive cameras

HOT lanes- Police will use infrared cameras

Fairfax City red light cameras- Your picture is taken and you are charged with a misdemeanor.

Charge of DUI- By pleading the fifth and refusing test, you are charged with a crime.

HOA- Your home is no longer your home.

Perhaps Orwell was correct?

Orwell - rats eat your face off. Sounds a lot like the excessive fees at Lifetime Fitness.

Americans VOLUNTEERED for this thanks to 9/11

These are publicly announced prior, you can avoid them easily, and they don't actually search you unless they see a probable reason.

Hell, they've been doing that since long before you were born. Unless you're ninety or something.

> Schools- Students must wear ID
Had a student ID

> School doors are locked
Doors often were locked, certainly were monitored.

> Discussion of intrusive cameras
Only reason they didn't discuss it then was because they were too expensive.Actually, scratch that, they did discuss it. It was too expensive. Now they can get the public to go into debt over their heads if they say it's for the schools. Doesn't matter what they actually use the $ for.

Cool, more new and ingenuous ways to give cancer to the cops.

Ain't capitalism great? You too can start a company, build some cameras and get the government to force people to pay you! All in the name of SAFETY! Don't like it? Don't drive there. Lack of customers in the area can change a lot.

Really?

You VOLUNTEERED for that HOA, no one held a gun to your head and made you move there and agree to its tenants.

Perhaps you're a bit paranoid.

Of course, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

Lets see where to start.

Airport: Dont fly is you dont like it. I would rather be alive and deal with an inconvenience then be turned into a bomb.

Checkpoints: No just no. Your stopped maybe asked for ID and move on. If your not drunk you arent searched.

Speed Traps/HOA/DUI: This the the case everywhere. Not just here.

Hot Lanes: Theres no point to having them with no enforcement of cheaters.

Red Light Cameras: You couldnt possibly be more wrong. Your license plate has a picture taken of it. You arent charged with a misdemeanor. You get a fine thats it. You dont even get points on your license.

Seems you are someone trying to hide a lot of illegal things if all this bothers you. Not a single thing approaches 1984

Yea that starts to get into the 1984 area. That is something to actually be bothered by, not the stuff the op had listed.

I thought this thread would reminisce on the beauty of this area circa 1984...not the book.

But yea, you could draw a few parallels, and even more if you stretch. It's not just Nova though, it's the whole fucking country.

DHS is "Big Brother". They've bought time on whatever hotel network, so now, when you visit certain hotels, you'll receive "See something, Say something" commercials along with that hotel's regular internal programming. Hilton maybe?

A website to report people critical of "Our Leader"? Seriously?

Just watch the shit they'll come out with over the next few years. Things will start to seem more and more like 1984. Guaranteed.

As a country, we've hit the point where our "Progress" is only setting us back. All this technology, all this access, all this global knowledge; it's only breeding greed, hate and fear. It's only a matter of time until this empire falls as well.
