Thoughts about Patch.com

Patch.com seems to be making some community inroads. Are they better than Fairfax Underground for information? Is Patch.com here to stay? Are they accurate? Anyone out there reading it?

The equal sizing of "news" with ads makes it inefficient for picking up news. The "letters to the editor" section also needs to be smaller. I still use FFU for up-to-the minute updates on gunshots, wrecks and online motorcycle gang rumbles.

Does patch get their news from this website?

What are the obscure great sources for what's happening in Fairfax?

Has chuckhoffman ever posted a topic that was picked up by patch.com?

FFxU still serves a purpose, which you don't get off the Patch sites, blogs like mine or elsewhere. I honestly get better news about things going on from here than I do from anywhere else. That's why people still read it. And I can't tell you how many times I heard from folks about posts I've made on here - there are a ton of lurkers out there.

So it can go the way of WTOP comments - censored and shut down if it gets out of control? No thanks. The rawness of this forum is what makes it valuable and entertaining. Yeah, you gotta sift through a lot of bullshit and rumors (and Off-Topic is a lawless no man's land), but you can find a lot of information here.

Another clever catchphrase courtesy of Chuck Hoffman/Senior Bitchologist and PMS sufferer.

I get RSS feeds from both sites and use both for news. They fill different niches and aren't competitors, except maybe for attention.

Patch is prone to typos, thin stories, and late news.

That being said, I don't think FXU has much competition. I've tried to find similar websites in other cities I have lived in- Nothing comes close to FXU! Thanks Cary.

Patch is slowly gaining ground. The more popular FXU gets, the harder it is to wade through all the crap.

I like Patch. They strive for "balance" but appear to tilt very Democratic - that's fine with me though.

They don't seem all that political at all to me. Each local editor is a bit different so perhaps it depends on which Patch you are reading...

My opinion of the patch depends on who the writer is. Some of them are great and give lots of details others spend 2 hours at an event and write 2 sentences.

Is he aware of your sordid personal history and all the crap you have pulled on this site?

"Which is why I argue that Fairfax Underground has passed its "sell by" date. Cary has demonstrated that he wants to spend as little time and effort maintaining it as possible, and I don't blame him, because taking bong hits is much more fun than dealing with the mongoloid hordes"

Is chuckhoffman positioning himself for a take over of FFXU? Why do you start your own administartor controlled board? I find many run out of gas after the inbreeding has reached the 3rd generation or so.
