Smoking In Bars To Be Snuffed Out This Week

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- This is the last week smoking will be allowed in Maryland bars.

The statewide smoking ban takes effect Friday. There will be limited exemptions for some bars and restaurants that prove they lose business because of the ban -- but they'll have to ban it for a few months to prove business suffers first. That means there won't be a bar in the state allowed to permit smoking in February.

Business that permit smoking after Friday could be fined by the state, though bar and restaurant owners could avoid fines if people light up and the owners can prove they took steps to prevent indoor smoking, such as removing ashtrays and posting no-smoking signs.

Now only if they can get these crackheads to smoke outside in VA. Nothin' like showering and smelling good to go out just to leave a bar with you and your clothes smelling like an ass ashtray. Then you put those clothes in the hamper and everything smells like sh*t.

I do smoke ciggs when i drink, thought i can stand them when im sober. Weird, but i don't really mind the smoking bans, its not too big of deal to walk outside. In the summer its actually pretty nice.

It may have the opposite effect. There are a lot of non-smokers that stopped going to bars because of the smoke. I used to play in a band and always dreaded playing at smoke-heavy bars and back then there were a lot.
I wouldn't get too complacent because Va bars are next to become smoke free.

The VA bill is being reviewed by the state Senate right now, with recommendations due out later today. This is going to happen here sooner than ya think...

I could maybe see a city or county ban, but not a State wide VA ban. Remember VA,NC,SC and & GA are tobacco producing States.

Also let's not forget Richmond, Virginia, is now the location of the largest Marlboro cigarette manufacturing plant in the World.

Maryland is as well - to an extent.

I would rather they ban transfats in all of the local food establishments.

Bullsh*t, the largest Marlboro cigarette plant is the co-worker that sits next to me. The guy has a cough he's been carrying around with him for a month now and it sounds like he's choking on turkey bones. He calls in sick Mon-Wed of last week and as soon as he returns he starts smoking again!?! He also gets about 6 10-15 minute breaks per day to go smoke with the other crackheads, they need to ban the sh*t at work.

Smoking is the single most vilest thing you can do to yourself. All smokers should die ASAP.

Bullshit! More people die from driving than from smoking. Its the car advertisments on TV that should be banned, not tobbacco ads. Everyone sue the car companies!
