Mount Vernon Police District – Police responded to two bank robbery attempts and one successful bank robbery that occurred between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. today. Detectives believe that all three of these were likely committed by the same suspects.

In a second attempt, moments later, a man and woman entered the Wells Fargo Bank at 6300 Richmond Highway, implied a weapon and demanded money. For unknown reasons, they left the bank without any money.
Then, around 12:22 p.m., a man entered the BB&T bank at 6618 Richmond Highway, implied a weapon and demanded money. The teller handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the suspect fled.
The male suspect was described as black, in his 20s and about 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a thin build and a medium complexion. In the first robbery, he was wearing a red beanie hat and a dark-colored sweater. The female suspect was described as black, in her 20s and about 5 feet tall, with a thin to medium build.
