downfall of this website

there was a time when I actually enjoyed this website ,it had it's idiots and fools but there was some good, interesting info, but lately my God,pornographic images, words (although effective and appropriate in many instances) are overused in a big way.
Jokes are made concerning every word and post no matter the topic, it's hard to weed (opportunity for a BAD joke)(quick some genius jump on it)(also check my spelling and make fun of that) through to get to what is really of interest.
Trolls and others go back under the bridge, you are not amusing, just sad
Ok people have at it tear me up,call me names.....

I will probably stick to the Fairfax Forum from now on because it is moderated, and try to stick to conversations with registered users. The nonregistered users are trolling the place and really has decreased the usefulness of the site. Cary used to moderate pr0n pics even in Off Topic. Aren't there enough spots online to get those? Why here?

I wish Cary would make the Fairfax Forum registered-user only at least for creating threads, if not posting at all. I understand his reasons for allowing anon posting here but as long as moderators can keep up with keeping the Fairfax forum clean I don't care who posts what in Off-Topic.

Registration doesn't work. Anyone can make up any name and yahoo for a quick email address. The trolls still get through. As for myself, I will register when needed.

The good-for-nothing people who rely on this website for their interpersonal relationships (e.g. alias, eesh, conie) need to be banned.

He should create a Registered Users Only forum. Perhaps set a low minimum number of posts (say 25+ posts) before a user is allowed to post in the Registered Users Only forum. This would weed out any one off registered user postings.

It takes more time to register, throwing a speed bump there for the trolls. And in other forum software (not this one) one can easily ignore users by hiding their posts. If a troll pops up, you plonk them and they are out of the experience of the site as far as you are concerned.

You are totally hung up on the "registered" bit - how strange.

My dear Lamont,

the answer would be a resounding No

I only hoped for resonably intelligent adults or even adolesents who have points of view and wish to express them ,

Not sophmoric idiots who find humor in pornography and stupid inane jokes...

Obviously you are in the second catagory....perhaps there is a porn version of sesame street where you could learn to spell and express a proper opinion

....also if you have trouble with any of the words,(the ones that contain more than 4 letters), you can google them or perhaps if you are aware of what a dictionary is you could look them up....

edification, good word you get a gold star!

when i first found this site last year there was a lot more useful and interesting local information posted daily then there is now. The site has degraded a bit into a hangout for trolls, On the other hand there's some pretty funny stuff at times, even thought it is in now way useful or interesting.

Case and point, I asked a question about buying guns. Of the 5 pages of responses, there are less than a dozen helpful posts and about 4½ pages of back and forth between two registered (when they aren't using aliases) users. Other than those two chest-beaters, no one is going to that thread anymore.

Regarding registering, I would posit that most of the anon posts are probably registered users who don't want to use their reg ID's.
