Teacher Arrested for Soliciting Minor on the Web
ARLINGTON, Va. – Detectives with the Arlington County Police Department’s Special Victims
Unit have charged 29-year-old Matthew Edward McGuire of Alexandria with Attempted Indecent
Liberties with a Minor and Use of a Computer to Solicit Sex with a minor.
Detectives arrested McGuire on January 9 at his home in the unit block of W. Myrtle Street,
with the assistance of Alexandria Police. He is currently being held without bond in the
Arlington County Detention Facility.
An Arlington detective assigned to the regional Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC)
task force began investigating McGuire’s online activities several months ago. McGuire
made contact with someone he believed to be a juvenile. During this contact, McGuire
engaged in sexually explicit communications that resulted in the charges against him.
McGuire is currently a teacher and coach at Chantilly High School in Fairfax County.
Detectives are investigating whether he had had any inappropriate contact with other
children. Anyone with information about McGuire that may be pertinent to this case is
asked to call Detective Greg Sloan at 703-228-4198.
