I'm starting to notice my AT&T service going from bad to worse in Herndon in the past couple of weeks. Is AT&T really losing their cell towers are there?

Same. Last night there was one bar (not too much of a shocker) so I couldn't use data service to get e-mails or anything else that requires data (porn)...(kidding) and this morning it was searching for a network. Switching to Verizon when the new iPhone comes out is looking like a possibility now more than ever.
Yep its bad in chantilly. I have to go outside now just to text. I don't know what's going on. Would it have anything to do with College starting causing massive cell phone use?
I live in Woodbridge, VA and just recently moved back from NJ. In NJ the service worked fine. I remember a long time ago when the Blackberry Pearl came out and I switched from Verizon to AT&T, my phone would always drop calls. A few weeks ago I was in D.C. and couldn't make a single call and when I called Customer Service there was a recording that AT&T isn't working in D.C. and they're trying to fix the problem. WTF!!! How do you have a cell phone company that doesn't work in the country's capital? I highly suggest switching to Sprint. Not only do they work everywhere, and don't have such a high dropped call rate, their customer service is actually helpful and they're much, much cheaper than wack a** AT&T. I came back to NoVA and realized my iPhone 4G didn't work ANYWHERE. Don't wait for this problem to go away. I called Customer Service plenty of times and was informed that the NoVA area has moderate cell phone coverage. I was also told for the cheap price of $200, I could get a Mini-tower that uses my DSL for reception up to 50 feet around my house. Bunch of BS!! I am so much more relaxed having Sprint. Do yourself a favor and get either Verizon or Sprint, the latter having unlimited data. We need to start boycotting this stupid company. AT&T truly sucks a**!!
AT&T hasn't worked in DC for years. As promised in my previous post above, the new iPhone has long come out and as of last week I have purchased a 4S and switched to Verizon. Lovin' it.

I have the same issue. AT&T lost a tower and "subs" the service out. Now I have ZERO and AT&T basically just told me I was just shit out of luck. Wants me to pay $200 to terminate a contract THEY cannot honor. I'm so sick of this.
We are focusing all resources on the Mall and surrounding areas in downtown DC because of the upcoming Inaguration of President Obama on January 21, 2013. You may notice some decrease in service availability during this time. If you are still experiencing problems after January 28, 2013; please call AT&T customer service for assistance.
