Carjacking and Assault in Mount Vernon Area


Mount Vernon Police District – A 43-year-old man suffered serious injuries when he was assaulted and had his car stolen in the 7400 block of Vernon Square Drive.

The victim had been running errands around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 19 when he parked his 2011 red Ford Taurus in a space behind the Safeway grocery store near the Vernon Square Apartment building. Two men reportedly approached the victim, repeatedly struck him and stole his car.

Police recovered the stolen vehicle at 2:30 a.m. around a mile away on Saul Street at Robert E. Lee Place.

The suspects are described as two black males. If there was anyone in these areas and noticed suspicious individuals or behaviors, detectives ask that they contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, e-mail at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES/274637 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.

UPDATE: Police Release Sketch of Carjacking Suspect

Mount Vernon Police District - The photo below depicts one of the suspects from a carjacking that took place Tuesday, July 19, 2011. The suspect in the sketch is described as black, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, 220-240 pounds and in his 40s. He is not clean shaven and was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.

I feel bad the guy got car jacked and hurt, BUT anyone living on Route One these days should know it is not safe to park behind the shopping center espec that late at night. That is asking for trouble.
