How about you go punch yourself, in the general area of your genitalia!

However, if you really want to get tipsy.....

Kilroys at Ravensworth shopping center. A few over by GMU but haven't been over there in years.

If you're living in Burke and looking for good bars, you moved to the wrong place!

Closer to you at OKM and Lee Chapel is Glory Days. I've only been there once 3-4 years ago and it had a decent showing (probably since that's pretty much it for the area -- I don't recall whether Hops Frog is still open up Burke Center Parkway towards 123).

Mike's American in Springfield might work, as well as the aforementioned Kilroy's at Ravensworth (Braddock/495).

Fat Tuesday's in University Mall (across from Mason at Braddock/123) is a good dive bar, but not if you have a peanut allergy. They also have live music a few nights a week and raw bar specials on Tuesday.

There are a few more in downtown Fairfax, but I don't recall the names other than Auld Shebeen (not even sure if that has a bar vs. just restaurant seating).

Repost if you find a good bar in Burke, because I'm pretty sure one doesn't exist.

Yeah, Burke is pretty much a wasteland for bars. Hopfrog is just horrible; don't even bother. Glory Days is OK, but the beer selection isn't much. After that, there's nothing -- in Fairfax, Auld Shebeen's not bad.

Try the "So Addictive" bar on Elden Street in Herndon. Report back let us know how it went.

I think GD in Burke/SPringfield has a better beer selection than the above poster mentioned - my biggest issue there is the price.

Hopsfrog is fine for a beer or two, but its new location is tiny and it's not worth going unless you're just trying to chill with a buddy.

I've never had a problem with Hard Times in Springfield - I've been going there for years and I'm in good with the bartenders and they have a quality draught selection. That being said, it's an absolute smokehouse in there, which doesn't bug me but if it bugs you then avoid it at all costs.

I would also concur that Auld Shabeen in Fairfax is pretty decent.

Backyard has a nice setup but the patrons are certainly ghetto trash. Every week there is a new bar fight there. The police love to follow people out of the parking lot and nab them. It's mainly the dregs of leftover bar crowds that have been barred from all other places.

Okay, my 2 cents...

Burke and Bars dont really equate. All of the above is dead on, Go to Hopsfrog if you wanna catch up with an old buddy for a beer, nothing more as the regulars look half dead and 100% alcoholic.

A few old timers used to sip wine at the Italian joint near Wal-Mart but Glory Days is probably the only halfway decent place to go, IE: Interact with others, watch a game etc.

Fats is s dump but not that bad if you go with a few friends... Avoid Bryons Grille as it is a crappy college hangout (The kinda place where the local dropout/manager stays relevant by hooking up his old fraternity brothers)

La Toltecca has a mean margarita and cheap happy hour specials, BEST Salsa in town, served free while you booze.

You could hit Red Hot and Blue, used to be popular on Thursdays and Fridays but I have heard the owner is trying to stay more "Family Friendly" now-a-days.

If you want better, younger and more abundant tail, you gotta hit BWU on Thursday evenings, Icons, or Velocity 5, though none of those are actually in Burke... Id get used to driving if you are looking for social interaction.

The only bar that feels like a real bar to me is Kate's Irish Pub. It's not some crazy chain, has real bar specials. Like something you'd find in a college town, Old Towne or Arlington. The only problem is that the clientelle is not really that great.

There's also a great bar in Downtown Fairfax. Auld Shebeen.

I've never understood why GMU students don't make a spot within walking distance of the college the bar to go to. A lot of bars have failed. The one accross from the Old Town hall in Fairfax is great if it's still around. Are there still any in University mall worth going to? Can't remember the names.

Well, the place across from the old Town Hall is now called something like, "Old Station No. 3"; it's pretty much like it was, to my eyes.

I actually don't mind Brion's in University Mall; they've stepped up their beer selection lately.

I'm way old for BWU.

Aint it depressing, spoiled friggin college kids should count their blessings before their inevitable un/underemployment after graduation.

Two answers - Fairfax City police and town council.

How does Kilroys still rank? It's not Burke, but atleast you can cut through the Lake Braddock area to avoid the traffic. When I was at Mason it was pretty good for the weekday happy hour and it seemed to pull locals back in town from college and young professionals on the way home after work.

If you are new to NoVA, you'll need to hit Old Town Alexandria or Arlington to get the real sense of a bar scene.

Mango Mike's is pretty awesome but it requires a drive. Great place though if you have a crowd and a dd.

Agreed, though it depends on what you are looking for. I like Guarapo and Eventide, but someone looking for a sports bar wouldn't. There are a few places in Tysons that are good for dinner/wine... Chef Geoffs and Idylwood Grill are my favorites.
