Miss Utility KNOWS where those underground utilities are!

The other day I saw a guy spraypainting marks on the ground at a commercial area to mark the various utility lines. These guys have all sorts of high-tech sensors or whatever to find the different types of utilities. I watched him for awhile until he pulled out and used one of these:

He dutifully marked where it told him to mark.

I then ran for the hills.

What's the problem? "Witching wires" work sometimes when the best and most modern utility locating instruments won't! You have to use ALL of the tools in your tool box. Believe me, those utility locators do whatever is necessary to mark those lines in the right spot. Still, it's a tough job - they can't see in the ground.

Knowing full well how much shit Im going to take for this, I can find water, gas lines, and electric lines. I don't know why some people can or can't do this, all I know is my grandpa, dad and I can but my sister can't. I can use the copper that is in the picture but I'd rather use the branch off of a willow tree. When you use the tree branch, the further down it pulls will determine how deep the water is.

I have worked for a local utility for 15 years and believe it or not these do work. They need to be made of metal, not wood, but they will pick up anything underground which will act as a conductor (metal pipe or wire). There are other pieces of equipment that can tell you which utility is which by running tone, but these rods have saved my ass more than once.
