What happened this morning?

Did someone fall off of the overpass or take the roll?

I was on 50E headed onto 66E and in the left lane on the bridge there were about 4 or 5 troopers/county boys and a small SUV being loaded onto a flatbed. Didn't really see anything else besides that.
(Look everybody! I contributed to a potential RIP thread without being offensive!)

There is a traffic camera where whatever happened went down. On the WTOP site it is the I-66 @ Rt 50 camera. Does anybody know of a place to go to review traffic cameras?

I got on 66 from 50 eastbound around 7:30 this morning. On the bridge over 66 on the left shoulder was a parked SUV (probably the one later loaded on the flatbed) and another car with a guy next to the rail looking down on to 66. Couldn't see anything in the westbound lanes, although emergency vehicles were arriving at the scene.

So we've heard from the Rt 50 crowd, anybody on 66 (either direction) notice a body laying around? Somebody had to have seen something from below if anything happened at all.

As I entered 66W from 50 woman on the ground, appeared dead. Large truck stopped in left lane/shoulder. Others on scene, one looked to have nurse/medical type scrubs on.

The medical examiner at the scene prounced her dead from an allergic reaction. Apparently she was allergic to gravity.

In Fairfax county. Don't know any of the specifics. Someone mentioned a car was parked on the overpass and there was speculation of someone jumping. I have not heard anything on the radio and I found nothing on a internet search.

How do you know there was a family involved? And, if there was a family, how do you know they didn't drive the selfish cowardly jerk to commit this act? Or, maybe the person was as much an asshole in life as he is in death and the family is relieved?

Ok, so i was driving on 66 West around 7:40-7:45 going fast as usual, but with a good stopping distance and the next thing I know, I am slamming on the brakes to avoid hitting the car in front of me which screeched to a halt. I saw something in the road between the far right lane and the next lane which I was in. Then I realized it was a body immediatly as the car stopped and I called the police to report all this right away. There was a white commercial truck in the far right lane near her body and it was slowly backing up, but it didn't look like he had hit her. Ther was NO blood coming from her but she looked dead. I got a good look at her as I was in my car only 20 feet from her when I stopped. No one was near her but then the lady in front of me who stopped suddenly got out and went over closer to her. She was also calling the police I believe. At that point i noticed 3 - 4 cars on the right shoulder up ahead that had pulled over. I guess one of them might have witnessed the actual incident. Suddenly, within a minute or two, several nurses on their way to work had stopped and were rolling her over on her back to do CPR. The woman had colored blonde hair that was growing out about 4 inches from her scalp. Looked like she had naturally light ash brown hair. She wasn't fat but she was a little thick and looked like she was about 45 years old. She was wearing khaki colored capri pants and flip flops and a short sleeved shirt. The whole thing was very strange! When they rolled her onto her back, i noticed from my car that she had at least 2 lacerations on her left side above her hip but again, she wasn't noticable bleeding from them. I don't know about these things but if she jumped, wouldn't the blood come out right away? and why would she have lacerations that look like someone hit her with their car? also she was laying on her left side in a resting position with her left arm out straight and her head almost resting on it. If she jumped, she wouldn't have survived long enough to get in that kind of position nor would she have landed like that for sure. anyway, i don't know but i just want to answer for those of you who have lees info. Anyway, so the nurses started doing CPR and then blood began coming out of her pretty fast and there was soon a small stream of blood coming from her body. At this point about 3 nurses were helping and there were a few people near them wondering what to do and traffic was becoming a nightmare behind me. There was no way for me to go around the scene at this point, nothing i could do that the nurses couldn't except make the report and make sure an ambulance was coming, but she looked really dead anyway so they wouldn't have much to do but take her away. Then a motorcycle cop showed up and i heard a fire truck trying to get through the stopped gridlock behind me and lots of cars. I got out of my car and asked the officer if i needed to stay although I hadn't seen the incident occur. A friendly man wearing glasses came up to him and said he had seen what happened. The officer said those of us who didn't witness anything could leave.
I couldn't believe I didn't hear anything on the news all day! Pretty strange!!!! Anyway, thanks for opening this forum. I hope my comments painted a clearer picture of the scene on Westbound 66 around 7:45 this morning near exit 57A I believe it was. I do not know anything about you guys who said you heard about a guy jumping. Maybe he just saw the incident or came afterward and was looking at the scene from an overpass. To be honest, i was distracted by the incident and didn't notice if there was an overpass or not. That would possibly make sense except for the lacerations on her side at about the level of a bumper - she was kind of petite. That's what I know.

I was also on scene. The woman jumped from the overpass and landed in the far right lane. Two nurses were tending to her, but she was non-responsiveness ... although I wasnt close enough to see if she was breathing or not. She lost alot of blood in the time I was there. Most of the blood appeared to come from a head wound. Id be surprised if she lived.

I'm sorry for your loss. I was the first one to stop and to start providing roadside care along with 3 nurses who were on their way home from work. Many of the pervious post are wrong and misleading and were posted by people who want to tell a story that didn't have the heart to do anything. I've been sick all day by those of you who kept going, who flicked me off and were yelling at me for stopping my car in the middle of the road to help this poor woman and to have some sort of protection. I mean really, I can understand someone not having the stomach to provide care, but you could have directed traffic until the police came. And to the trucker who want to go around the poor woman so he could get by before everything got backed up, you disgust me!

To the family and friends of the departed, I'm so sorry! This isn't something you want to ever hear about someone who you love and care for. You all will be I'm my thoughts and prayers. RIP

I arrived maybe seconds after it happened... Cars were still pulling over and 2 females were rendering first aid. There was a a guy leaning over the overpass looking down. There were maybe 20 cars scattered from left to right trying to pull over safely.

I should not have looked... but I noticed grey sweatpants and blood draining from the persons head area. I am no EMT or First Responder and I felt helpless. people were already on the phones to 911. I said a small prayer for her family and kept moving forward.

As a got less than a full mile up the road... In the median was a VA State Trooper sitting there waiting to catch another speeder... I was angry at him for not responding to the scene... even though I knew that not enough time had passed since the incident took place.

I am no softy... But seeing this incident this morning was very humbling and I then made a few calls to loved one just to remind them how I felt!

Thanks for this post... I can now try to move forward.

Hats of to the nurses who did stop and render aid. Regardless of whether or not that woman lived, I'm glad to know there are people like these nurses, MDs, medics, etc, who have this kind of training and knowledge. Heck, if I had been on the scene I would have panicked and run around in circles until somebody trained in this stuff stopped and got to work.

It was a 44 year old woman who committed suicide by jumping off the bridge. she was dead as soon as she hit the ground. she had just dropped her children off at school. lives out by haymarket

I've logged more miles on 66 than most of you newbies and have earned the right to be critical. You folks with your heartless thoughts and comments about a woman, with a mental illness and family that is now without a mother and which be scarred for the balance of their existent, who had to spend a whole extra hour one day, which will soon leave your memory, are truly remarkable. I sincerely hope and pray that a similar situation does not befall you or your family sometime. And the coward who has the guts to use the C-word without having the guts to post his name and email, well, come to the bar some night at the Dogfish Head and announce yourself. I'd love to meet you.

@incredulous: STFU. Dont care how many "more miles on 66" you drive - ppl have the right to be mad at someone who could have hit, injured, killed them NO MATTER HOW SICK IN THE HEAD SHE WAS! She chose to jump into TRAFFIC, asshole. Aint nobody here forced here to CHOSE to do that. And to suggest you'd want to "meet" somebody at some bar over it? That is the HEIGHT o' faggotry right there.

so stop reading this thread if yr so damn sick of it. Nobody has a gun to yr head making you stay here. Go get off yr ass and help the family grieve instead of sit here and bitch about what ppl are posting on the interweb

If someone I knew (and unfortunately, I can think of a person I love very much right this very second as a culprit) did this, my anger at her would be increased ten-fold by the fact she would choose to take her life in such a public fashion AND maybe hurt/kill others in the process.

Sorry someone you knew chose to kill themselves..............but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS HOLY, THAT DOESNT ENTITLE YOU TO TELL OTHERS HOW THEY SHOULD FEEL ABOUT IT, no matter how "pretty sure" you think we would react

We get it!!! You’re too cool to care about a woman with 3 kids killing herself. In fact you want us to know It's hilarious.. Let me post all the things you uneducated left turning, Copenhagen spitin, inbreeds thinks funny. After all why waste your time reassuring all of us deeply fascinated bystanders how truly funny “every” post about death, rape, politics, and natural disasters really are. I for one would hate for you have to endure the physical servitude it takes for you to keep banging away the same hilarity on your mother’s basement computer. So for now on if any of these things happen let’s just assume you obvious mensa card carriers are LOL’ing on this post and your twitter feeds, while you vote for your favorite dancing celebrities.
Death
Rape
Illegal immigration
Drugs
Suicide
Murder
If any of these funny topics come up do us all a favor and let us just imagine the funny quip you would delight us with. Or in other words go fuck yourself and die.
God bless

Thank you someone for speaking the truth, it makes me sick reading these comments about how funny it is that someone who suffered from a disease took their own life. Leaving a family behind and others who loved them. Complaining about how it messed up their commute today and how it brings you giggles. Thats just Fed up. If someone in your life battles with depression and something happened to them. i dont think you would be laughing. So show a little respect to the family of this women, they are wonderful people who have lost someone very important to them. and stop being such Dbags.

Not Cowardly
Not Having fun
Not wanting a rating of 10 or 9 or whatever
Not meant to screw up your commute

this was a family member

If any of you ever have friends who have depression or mental illness you should watch them...be there for them. Meds are not magic.

This person never did anything wrong in life
Raised 3 children very well

I pray that all of you who are making fun of this never have to deal with suicide or near suicide attempts of loved ones or friends. It isn't funny.

I know this woman and her two daughters very well. I believe she also has one or two older sons. She was mentally ill and committed suicide. I have been scouring the news to find out information and am appreciative of the people who accurately and respectfully reported what happened. I am grateful to the nurses and others who stopped and tried to help, what heroes you are.

What a terrible time for this family, I hope they never read the horrible things some of you wrote. How disrespectful. I hope this woman is at peace now and her family will eventually be able to heal from this horrible tragedy.

I must have been just in front of her; I dropped my daughter off at 7:10am and drove up 50 to 66. Her daughter is a good friend of mine. I cannot imagine the mental state of a person who says goodbye to her children and then feels compelled to kill themselves - nobody thinking normally would abandon their children like that.

My prayers go out to her family.

Before anyone gets too worked up over the haters, just skip past their posts and ignore it - its only there to get a rise out of you and getting pissed off at what they say only feeds their pleasure in causing others grief.

Jennifer and the 3 nurses, Thank You for helping someone, a total stranger at that, it's folks such as yourselves who keep me believing in womankind.

(To all the Doctors who might have kept on going.... you might learn something from these nurses)

(To those who dissed the nurses, I hope you are next to go over the edge, but in the privacy of your own dam parent's homes)

No...I do not wish it. My son was given the wrong medications and didn't mix with him....he unfortunatley tried to take his life. One hour before we were talking and he was fine. He went home and blacked out, took more meds unknowingly. He almost died....I know what it feels like and I sincerely hope no one ever has to feel what I felt...the fear... the unknown of whether or not it was intentional. He didn't want to do try suicide... he doesn't remember it... the doctors were amazed with what he had newly been prescribed. I was just saying, please please try to think of the family left here on earth. These are innocent kids...they are already scarred for life and heartbroken. I posted my opinion that the comments weren't funny to me. I don't care if you agree with me or not. And I am a good person...wanting to do good in life. I would never, ever wish any bad on anyone. So you are wrong whether you want to believe it or not. I just hope you don't have to experience anything minutely close to realize how devastating this is. She was ill...she did not do this to harm anyone else knowingly. But unknowingly she did. Please just look in your hearts and find kindness to not hurt her children or husband or siblings should they stumble across this site sometime. That's the only thing I wish for...for their peace and comfort now and for the rest of their lives.

She actually had four children. Yes, her son was married about a week ago. She has three daughters. I knew the family and the woman who committed suicide personally. They're no doubt the nicest family and people I ever had the opportunity to be around and never did anyone any harm. As stated before, yes she was mentally ill. To be completely honest, she was an amazing person and mother.

I know that while many of you are making jokes at this tragic event remember that a family is involved and suffering a great deal... This woman was my dear friend and I find it repulsive that you all can joke at the tragedy of the situation..She was a beautiful soul and will be greatly missed by many.. Please have an ounce of compassion for this family..

Good morning. To the friends and family of this woman, you have GOT to understand this is not the place for "compassion". This is a PUBLIC BOARD. And the reality is that someone, ANYONE who causes a traffic jam for WHATEVER reason is going to piss ppl off in this region.

It's a fact of life that you ALREADY know. I've told ppl already that I know when I am bleeding to death in some turn lane someday (my guess is Burke Centre and Roberts Pkwy LoLz), my near last thoughts will be how ppl are gonna be making fun on the Underground about my death the next day for holding them up. It's just life.

The reason I'm telling y'all this is because your pleas for "respect for the family" are well meant, but misguided. All you are doing is:

a) bumping the thread, bringing it more publicity for her to be a target for ridicule
b) feeding the beast, so to speak. Making this thread more humourous
c)using her mental illness as a way to say that her actions should be excused, when in reality, she could have hurt or killed innocents with her actions.
d) focusing on complete strangers for the pain that lies in yr heart over her death instead simply ignoring the strangers who know nothing of her, and focusing on her family in their time of need.

I'm sure she was a nice person, and I'm sorry you have lost her. But she made her choices, and did so in a public fashion. So the public is speaking about it, and may be doing so in a way you do not like. Which is their right. And you have the right to say what you will about the responses that will occur in this thread, as well. But in doing so, you are just bumping the thread and making it open to more jokes. If you TRULY respect her, ignore this entire thread and eventually, it will die out. Focus more on her family and friends than on complete strangers on the interweb, ok?
