The real estate agent describes it as “perfect for a growing family,” but the five-bedroom home in a Washington, D.C., suburb was once the perfect base for a double agent who betrayed the United States.
The Vienna, Va., home formerly owned by infamous spy Robert Robert Hanssen, Spy, House for SaleHanssen is up for sale, with an asking price of $725,000, USA Today reports.
Hanssen, an FBI agent was arrested in February 2001 and charged with selling secrets to the Soviet Union and then Russia for $1.4 million in cash and diamonds over more than two decades. He pleaded guilty to espionage and is serving a life prison term.
A Justice Department report described Hanssen’s betrayal as "possibly the worst intelligence disaster in U.S. history."
Two Russians working for the U.S. government were executed because of information Hanssen sold to Moscow, government prosecutors said.
