Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
It is fabulous. This place has Saturday events, discounts on smokes, often free food and drinks - middle of the day stuff. If you don't like the smell of cigars, though ...

shami is a great guy!
i hang over there occasionally. mostly an older crowd, but there are a few of us who are mid twenties.
chill place no matter the age
I've only been there once, and so I will need to give it another go before I make a choice on the place. The gentleman that met me at the door was a nice person. He offered friendly help without being too helpful. ( I find that at a lot of shops ) The place was packed because there was an event going on. Which I'm sure was the reason I didn't enjoy the experience. I never recommend checking out a smoke shop during an event. The prices there were what I'd expect from someone with overhead to cover. I really was disappointed when I found that the lounge did not serve alcohol. I really love a good scotch with my stick. I look forward to meeting a few of the regulars there and feeling this shops experience before the next event. It's hard for me to feel part of the event when I'm "crashing" it.

Not positive but I believe they are a club so they cannot provide the alcohol but you can bring your own. I went in one time and they had a bunch of bottles up on a counter in the back with some random mixers and people were watching football, drinking, and smoking. My only complaint was that there were about 45 people in the place and you could barely see the counter in front of you.
After spending a week in Naples FL and another in Miami I am pretty spoiled when it comes to cigar lounges. Every other night we hit a different place with a full bar, plenty of seating and big screen TVs. Plus, my boss bought a box of Opus X and handed them out on the last night. While I would never drop $25 on a cigar, I think that I now understand why people really covet these. The typical $7-10 stick I smoke is nice, but this was really outstanding. Not something that I would smoke on a regular basis, but a great celebration cigar.

The CXIIIREX club costs $5,000 to join and has a monthly minimum of $100. According to today's paper Tom Selleck was hanging out there over the weekend.
In my experience the Landini's - particularly the kid - is a bit of an putz. He's got an holier-than-thou attitude. As if he built a succesful business rather than it being handed to him.
I was in a golf tournament that they sponsored last year. He won half of the raffle prizes and instead of doing the classy thing by donating them back so the players could win he took everything and without a smile or hint of humility just keep accepting one after another (15 of the 30 raffle prizes). Everyone in the place was bothered by his attitude. Hopefully he treats his customers better.
(To his credit, I assume he won everything because he bought a bunch more raffle tickets than others but have some class dude.)
I LOVE hearing stories about locals who are celebrities in their own heads. The arrogance that comes with assumed/inherited wealth really cracks me up.

This kid really fits that description. Slicked back hair, acting all pretentious like he was a celebrity or something. It was funny to watch. The crazy thing was everyone in the room was ragging on him but he seemed to have no clue. I think he thought everyone was impressed or something.. too funny. I have a hard time eating there anymore knowing that I'm helping make money for him.
I'm sure the place will fail as soon as the old man dies. The kid has a lot to learn about how to treat people.

Been to Burke. My first time was during their lounge opening event. They had a jazz band and all. I could barely stand inside without having a hard time breathing. There were so many people there that you could not move around. The ventilation system needs some work along with their website. Their prices are ok. Not sure I'd buy again at those prices.
BUT the owner and the others that worked there were real cool guys. They helped me pick out some sticks and suggested some others for the wife. I'd have to give it a 2nd shot but I'd have to go when its not really packed.

Word is he's been let off by Alexandria PD on more than a few occasions for driving drunk.

I went in there a few weeks ago. Nothing but a bunch of Iranian hookah smoking faggots who, when called Iranian, fly into a rage and tell you they are Persians.

I've been there. Great place to suck off some loaded bull muzzies.
