After reading this thread, it just struck me what the problem is. Banning Yoga pants/tights is not because teenage boys will be distracted. Hell, teenage boys will be distracted by virtually anything resembling a female!
I think the reason FCPS has a problem is that it distracts the ....TEACHERS! Both male and female depending on their orientation!

I go to Longfellow middle school and girls in my grade are only 13 or 14 and they wear yoga pants all the time, its so revealing and slutty. These two girls are especially known for wearing tight pants to show off their gigantic butts, addie doherty and bora zaloshnja(if you go there you know why i want a yoga pants ban) and they try to flaunt their bodies every day and everyone else thinks they are just gross. It's rediculous, no one at school wants to see those two sluts flaunting their buttcracks, or anyone else for that matter

It's obvious from many of the remarks on this post that a majority of people associate yoga pants with sex, and girls who wear them, as sluts.
I like yoga pants and I DO wear them, but I don't think young girls need to be wearing these to school or any other type of clothing that draws out the imagination of others, but mostly because I would want kids focusing on school and not what others think they look like.
A general uniform would be good... it won't get rid of imagination completely, but gives kids a few less things to worry about -- "what am i going to wear today" or "what will everyone think if i wore that?"
There's a time for playful dressing -- when you're adult. Kids need to be focused on academics and their future careers. They have enough stress having to deal with cliques.

I've noticed that the trend in female clothing in recent years seems to be not only to leave as little to the imagination as possible but to make the person wearing them look better than they would if they were completely naked. The clothes squeeze where the body doesn't and glosses over cellulite with a sheer spandex/lycra/whatever thin coating.

Sofia: I couldn't disagree with you more, this is not a parental or a school issue, it is a matter of individual taste, the words "appropriate" mean absolutely nothing and I believe you are a product of the FCPS system with internalized oppression. Wearing yoga pants is only the first of many decisions that need to be made by the individual and if you can't make this decision then you will be really stuck, as most kids are after FCPS education. Yes, of course, you should be able to wear yoga pants, this is a ridiculous issue that masks the real issue which is the right to self determination and the responsibility to make your own decisions, not a parent or a system, especially after elementary age. I wear yoga pants all the time because they are comfortable and not especially risque. The only time, legally, a school system can have this kind of input is if they can PROVE, not imply, that an article of clothing inhibits other student's learning, if something is so offensive or provactive that little boys can't keep their eyes off it, like a boob hanging out or something. Women/girls wearing yoga pants falls far short of this legal definition, but as usual, FCPS has to flex their control features. same old same old.

Some chicks come to work, and this is an office mind you, professional setting, with yoga pants on. They usually have some sort of long sweater that covers their ass, but still, doesn't seem too appropriate to me.
